I don't see Evertons run is as being far harder.

Yep.
I think Everton should get quite a few points from their games.

I was impressed with Everton this season.

  • Everton have broken their record for the most points in a season in the Premier League era (since 1992) after surpassing the 65 points they managed in 2007-08. Their highest tally in the old Division One was 90 points in 42 matches in 1984-85
  • The Toffees have also equalled their club record by winning seven league games in succession for the first time since April 1987. Just as in 1984-85, they finished that season as league champions.

Meanwhile Moyes seems intent on breaking every negative record at Man Utd. How is he not getting fired?
From a few days ago
  • The defeat marks the first time in 22 Champions League games that United have conceded more than twice
  • Their exit means for the first time since 1995-96 they face the prospect of not competing in the Champions League next season

With regards to the title race, I personally think that today's game is going to be the title decider. I think that Man City and Liverpool are both capable of winning their remaining games. And lets not forget that Chelsea are in the background.
For Man C and Liverpool fans, the remaining games of the season are going to be exciting.

He isn't getting sacked because Klopp ain't leaving Dortmund anytime soon. It's just our home form that has let us down otherwise we aren't doing that bad. There's far more pressure at United than it is at Everton.

I hope Liverpool win today. Can't stand Pellegrini. It may not be the title decider as Chelsea are still in there. City still have to go to Everton and Pulis which will be draws at best imo.
I think most of us would prefer Chelsea to win the PL but their inability to score away with ease is letting them down.

Doing a Yas but this game really could be 5-0 to either team or 5-5, drinking shall commence early, the nerves will be shocking. Lets hope it isn't decided by a refereeing decision like at the etihad. (Unless it benefits Liverpool.)

Yup, really no way to call it. Not sure if team news has been updated but they talked up Aguero being back for the game. However that was a bad call last time as he played poorly, clearly wasn't fit and ended up going off again, lost the Barca game partially due to that. if they started with a fit striker things may have been different. Of course he may come back and be at his best. Kompany has been very hit and miss this year, sometimes brilliant sometimes a bit of a disaster. Again against Barca it was ponytail who got sent off but Kompany who was most at fault for the situation.

Liverpool's defence is pretty hit and miss, one game they do well, the next Skrtel will score an own goal, back pass a perfect assist for someone and attempt to give away 12 penalties.

This is where being a manager with the team longer is an advantage. Pellegrini might go into this game with one idea to pump the team up for a big game, see his players fail. A year from now in the same game he might go the other way in terms of motivation and find it works.

I would somewhat expect Liverpool to come out swinging, put everything into the first half hour and if they get a lead not sit on it but come under pressure later in the game. It's a good tactic because they have pace and counter attack like a boss, so if they can get an early goal then the opposition pretty much has to push forwards later on leaving themselves exposed. if Liverpool burn loads of energy early and don't get the lead I can see them losing, if they get 1-2 goals in the first 30 mins I think they'd end up scoring more as City push forwards and win fairly comfortably.

Evertons problem will be next year. Lukaku is a double edged sword. If we sign him the money is all gone and we don't actually improve as a squad. If he goes we have to find a replacement and for our money that's a hard task.

everton really do need to buy Lukaku imo

and / or Deulofeu, but then is it that surprising where Everton are with ~ £50m of loan signings

Would be interesting to see where they would be without those three players this season, I would wager a fair few places further down the table.

Hard to see them replicating the same next season without putting a lot of hard earned dosh down (or being as lucky again with loans)

yes/no. For one thing Chelsea won't necessarily sell, also there is every chance they'll do a cut price deal so that they get the first option to buy back at a cheap cost. IE sell for 20-25mil now because he currently doesn't want to sign a new contract, but for that price you aren't going to get a lot of benefit back your way. Sell him for 10mil, with first refusal before selling to another club and the option to buy back for say 15-20mil.

It means if he turns into the best striker around in the next 4 years they effectively can get themselves a top notch striker for cheap. Then they can get a Costa/Falcao now, though I keep thinking Costa is old because he has the face of a 35 yr old but he's only 25.

Either way, they already have cash left over from the last summer and whatever else they can get this year. Lukaku will be a year older and long term it's a good deal with potential for significant profit if/when he moves on in a few years so for Everton 20mil upfront with no clauses has more potential for profit than a cut price deal that lets Chelsea effectively get him back on the cheap.

Lukaku himself has a lot of room for improvement. Plenty of poor games this year as you'd expect from a 20 year old player. he started great, went through a poor spell and I think has come back stronger, more well rounded. He seems willing to learn and the being played on the wing against Arsenal showed there was more and more to his game. I think he'll thrive and improve significantly year on year under a good manager for several years. So him alone staying and being a year older, more experienced will improve the team. The team will also improve with another year under that mentality and improving in the league.

There are always good quality cheap players available, with increased money from TV and potentially CL money I think Everton can comfortably spend more than 20mil this year, but it seems like Martinez has already earmarked a significant portion of the money to upgrade training facilities first which is sensible.

Regardless of what Everton spend this summer they won't get CL every year, they might get it now and then, but spending after a goal the club simply can't achieve is how teams get in huge trouble. Martinez has a very sensible head on his shoulders and is making the right moves, I wouldn't worry about this summer.

Yeah that's why I think next season is the real test. I can't see us getting stronger even if the loans stay. We have no one to cash in on like Felliani to be able to spend more than securing the players we have on loan and then add to the squad to make it better than this years.

Or we lose those players and have to find replacements and hope it gels as well. We could cash in on barkley but that would not be a wise idea yet.

Main worry today is if that clown Dimechelis is playing, he's worth at least a goal and a penalty. In other words, if he plays, City have to score at least 2 to get anything out of the game.

Hopefully a Liverpool win to round the day off :) Watched the NBL final here this morning .. the Perth Wildcats trounced Adelaide in the final :)

FrankJH, obvious DM reader. Are you Martin Samuel in disguise?

Whether I am or not, its based on fact that Everton wouldnt stand a chance of buying any of the three loans, and unlikely be in the same place without them

Barkley is a fantastic player and imo should stay where he is for another season at least but even if Everton keep him past the summer it will be a massive ask to get / stay in the top 4 or 5

So? The point of the loan system is to allow players that might not play at their patent club to get games and allow clubs that may not be able to afford to buy players to bring players in. If Everton get into the CL thanks to that, they'll be able to afford to sign these players.

The exact same rules apply to every other club.

Doesnt stop the loan system itself being somewhat suspect.

Im not sure the difference in winnings between 4th or 5th/6th is going to make that much difference, if you are meaning the TV money after a season in the likely group of death rhen of course but thats over a season from being paid

The same rules may apply but its unlikley City or Barca or Chelsea would lend a player to Arsenal for example, so the practicalities arent a straight comparison
