Am I doing something wrong? My arms are killing me:(

I found an old single dumbell in the stable it was just sat there in the corner gathering dust...

So I got it quickly googled training with a single dumbell and it's common practice apparently and all the rage lol

So after looking at some exercises to do I did 45 mins on the treadmill then I did some curls and stuff with the single weight.

I counted the weight and it comes in at 10kg...

Anyway to cut a long story short...my arms today are killing me...not just sore...have I done something wrong?
:o

No... you should re-read all the advice given to you before. ;) :D

In all seriousness, as you've never really used your arms in this way before, they're just sore from the effort. Give it a couple of days and you'll be fine. You might find using the rest of your muscles in a similar way brings significant benefits. But you'll know all of that assuming you take my first bit of advice. :)

Sorry, I was being unhelpful and a bit facetious. It was a pop at "curls". They don't achieve much of anything in isolation.

Yes, they pain will go away - if you've not been active for a long time then your arms will hurt.

I mixed 5 tonne of concrete last summer...8 hour days on the spade shovelling gravel in the mixers....

My arms are strong but this was medium weight over and over....curling this barbell is different...

if it's first time, you've just overdone it and the muscles aren't used to it. just take a rest day and start again, but take it a bit easier next time and then build up more reps etc.

Doing a bit of manual labour a year ago doesn't count as an active lifestyle ;)
I ride mountain bikes 2/ 3 times a week, gym 3 / 4 times a week and still have sore arms after coming back from holiday / not going to the gym for a couple weeks.

This, and also stop curling and start squatting.

Step back with one leg.

Elevate the rear leg onto a bench or something.

Hold the single dumbell overhead.

Squat.

It's not that difficult. ;)
