How much does Mantle benefit low end CPU setups, lets run a few tests.

Its not.

Tommy's Min FPS are higher than mine @ 61 FPS and Avr of 84 FPS.

Ohhh I misread, my apologies, so you beat my minimums only? :p

All good Humbug and Mantle seriously does give your CPU new life. Just need a few more games and that will make Mantle a proper plus and that is coming from a nVidia fanboy :)

Here's how Mantle benefits my low end cpu.

...

No Vsync input lag - Zero - Vsync on or off feel the same

Lol, come on Matt. Input lag and VSync has basically nothing to do with Mantle, it definitely does not solve the input lag problem. Mantle is a graphical API built to low-level so that it can communicate directly to the GCN architecture more efficiently rather than a high level coded API which has lots of structure overheads. This allows the CPU to deal with more draw calls per unit time than DirectX can currently offer.

But it has nothing to do with the monitor-GPU sync rate problem which causes input lag when VSync is on and tearing when it's off. Mantle doesn't solve that problem at all.

^^ fixed that for you. :)

I realise my 4770K @ 4.3Ghz isn't low end, but neither is a 1090T really.
However I decided to run the Thief benchmark on my 7950CF setup (I ran it twice for each and took the second results for both). I did wonder what settings everyone had used?

Anyway, my results:

Mantle fps
Min: 35.9
Avg: 46.3
Max: 64.7

DirectX fps
Min: 34.7
Avg: 75.3
Max: 99.0

Highest VRAM usage recorded was 4290MB, which seeing as they're 3GB cards in CF I'm assuming means 2145MB per card? So unlikely to have been hitting VRAM limits.

Settings are "as high as possible @ 1080P"

There is no CF profile for Thief yet. the Benchmark thread is here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18580813

Alt + Return and then Alt + Prt Scr to take a screenie of your Mantle results.

But turn off one of your GPU's, CF does not work in this game.

The problem here you have tested CF on DirectX what is in deed working and then Single GPU on Mantle.

CF works on DX11 but not on Mantle in Thief.

What FOV did you set then? Maximum? Mine was 90.

No Crossfire in Mantle would explain it.
Without wanting to sound like I'm hating on Mantle, I'm not really sure why I would run this on 1 card in Mantle rather than 2 cards in DirectX?

Also, why is there no crossfire support in Mantle? Is it an AMD issue or a Thief issue?
Wasn't one of the selling points of Mantle that developers know what they're doing better the people that make the APIs?

Thief
Mantle isn't the same as DirectX when it comes to Multi GPU's. For a game running Mantle the Devs have to make there own changes to the game for it to work. I find running the game with Mantle much better than DirectX even if am not getting the same amount of frame rate. The game just feel much more smoother to me and I also get less screen tear almost to the point its not there on Mantle.

Its nothing to do with AMD sadly.

FOV is 90 by Default, so 90. :)

CF is the responsibility of the Developer.

I appreciate this is now getting off topic (sorry Kaap), but that makes it 50% of current Mantle games that don't support multi gpu.
If this trend continues with the next 20 Mantle titles it seems like there are going to be 10 more Mantle titles that I'm gonna be playing using DirectX.
I appreciate this could also be an issue with DX12, which is worrying. Not sure I could go back to single GPU...
