4k2k Display with NVIDIA® G-SYNC - Acer XB280HK

Hold one for me till payday please Gibbo :p

Can't wait to see how you explain this one to the Mrs.

"Uhm its the same as the one I have but this one has gsync"

"What's gsync?"

"A revolutionary frame rendering method gamers dream of, only avail...."

"Snore, what ever darling"

I did a ton of OT last month that easily covers it and enough to take her shopping, so I wouldn't need to explain :D

I just worry about it being Acer but saying that, the Acer 1650P screen I had was a good image, so happy to risk it.

Acer are one of the worlds largest manufacturers, they generally churn out very good stuff. :)

I have had Acer monitors and quiet a few laptops over the years should be ok, same 4K panel used on the other 4K monitors.

I think there was and still is a certain stigma attached to Acer like all they sold was cheap tat but they do make some good stuff :p

Would this run this monitor OK?

Inno3D GeForce GTX 780 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Along with a i7 4960X in am ASUS Rampage X79 black edition and 64GB of HyperX beast.

Am I likely to have problems?

I was considering an Asus SonicMaster MX279H 27" but now I'm thinking about 4K since the prices have come down so dramatically.

You have a good start with the 780 6GB, but you might need second 780 one depending what you play of course

If you haven't purchased any of this yet....

4930k over the 4960x, same chip different price.
64gb ram, do you need 64gb? Absolutely enormous strain on the CPU.
Use money saved from the above for another one of those 780 6gb cards.

On my previous post I assumed you had the gear.

If you plan to buy though,

CPU consider the 4820K also, save the money from the 4960X and 4930K. Except you need them, for gaming they are pointless.

RAM I found 8GB quad channel is more than enough. I do not do renderings etc. Just playing games, compiling software on VS and Eclipse, while using the MS Robotics from time to time.
So except couple of 64bit games, the rest are still 32bit, using only 3.3MB ram. And those 64bit games, never use more than 6GB RAM.

Motherboard. This is down to personal choise. I went cheap, got the MSI GD45 and do not regret it.
Awesome board, saved me a lot of money, and has good overclocks.

With the money saved above, you can buy 2 GTX780s 6Gb if not 2 Titan Blacks.

pardon the ignorance :)

But would it not have been better to have an 4K, 28inch 120/144hertz panel ?

Will gsync really compensate that much ?
