4k2k Display with NVIDIA® G-SYNC - Acer XB280HK

Video won't do it justice but it looked very smooth :)

Absolutely and it needs to be seen in front of you and not a recording to appreciate it from all accounts. I feel the vid looks poor but from reading around the guys who have used it, I don't think I (and other buyers) will be disappointed

Hey Joe and welcome to the forums :)

Maxwell (high end) is rumored to be here next year (possibly March at a guess), so depending on what you want from settings will decide what way to go.

If you wanted max settings or near as damn it, I would go for a pair of 780 6GB cards but if you are happy to drop settings, I would grab a 3GB 780 and wait it out for high end Maxwell.

I did some testing on a single card to show what is what.

Hope that helps :)

Thank you mate.

I was of the opinion that a single GTX780 with 0 AA going to play TESO at 4K but you concrete that. .

The reason is, it plays very well right now at 1080p with 4x MSAA, with everything maxed out.

So it will be more or less the same without AA at 4K. Until the new Nvidia cards come out next year. :)

Cheers

Just going to wait for some reviews first I think, I know this means I may miss out on the early special offer price but people are having a fair few issues with 4k monitors atm, mainly AMD users I know but still.

You can easily get away with no AA at 4K and it still looks just as good in faster moving games.

Yeah.

And if we take it logically, the pixels are smaller, and a 28" 4K monitor, going to have better image quality than a 24-28" 1080p with 4xMSAA at almost the same cost to the gpu.

But you have more experience, with 4K monitor, so I trust your opinion.

I did some screen comparisons and had to proper zoom in before I could notice the edges on things and that was with both AA on and AA off. MSAA is a big hit to the frames at 4K, so a small amount or FXAA works nicely.

@Gregster - thanks a lot mate, that is very helpful and helped me rule out the Titan and SLI set ups I was worried I was going to need.

I think a 780 based card will do me fine for a year or so until Maxwell time.

Now the question is which of these two cards do you recommend for 4K medium to high;

Option 1 780ti with 3GB - Inno3D http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-036-IN or EVGA http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-235-EA&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1402

Option 2 780 with 6gb -Inno3D http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-037-IN or EVGA http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-253-EA&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1341

I am a massive fan of EVGA, purely because of their customer services/RMA policies and there is a couple of EVGA reps on these very forums :)

hello @Vegacortez and @Gregster,

Congrats on your order, I've ordered mine as well and think I'm in the first 20 so hopefully get it before Sept 5th as that seems a long time away!

One question I'm struggling with as I'm doing a new build, what graphics card are you planning to use with your new 4K G-sync monitor? I have another 30 days or so to decide before I order and I'm considering a Titan Black (seems like overkill in money terms for very little benefit), an aftermarket OC 780ti 3GB from EVGA/Inno3D or a 780 6gb OC aftermarket card (possibly in SLI but with Maxwell around the corner seems like a waste?)

I'm conscious that Maxwell is just around the corner and will probably buy a maxwell card in the next 12 months so don't want to waste unnecessary money on an expensive card if I can avoid it.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi,
I have just got my new rig recently which has a 6 core intel overclocked, 32gb of 2133mhz ram and 2 titan blacks which i have overclocked. Compared to my overclocked i5 rig with 1 GTX 780 super jetstream i am in a good position to compare rigs on my sammy 4k monitor. On the new rig i can get 60fps on the games i have tried apart from crysis 3 which on the welcome to the jungle level i get late forties and upwards so g-sync will work nicely on games like that. These are max settings with no AA. The only issue i had on the 3gb gpu at the moment was with trying to apply any AA with max settings on some games like watch dogs on max settings, the vram just ran out. I would think that sli GTX 780 6gb would be good as they are fairly cheap and g-sync will pick up the slack of any dips under 60fps. If you only go with one GPU i would go with power over vram especially if you only want to keep it a year. You need to stay above 30fps for g-sync to work properly. 45-60fps fluctuations are the sweet spot i have read from g-sync reviews. Personally as you can get two overclocked aftermarket GTX 780 6gb for £410 each that is better than the possible 600 quid of a single 780 ti overclocked with more vram. If you have 6gb of vram and sli cards which don't cost too much and g-sync i think you don't need to worry about maxwell gpu's.

ETA and Count update?

Gibbo - any more news on the ETA for a possible early batch? Need to try and time my budget and spend for a new graphics card to when this monitor will arrive as ideally they ship together.

Also I'm hoping that by the time they come in stock, there will be some news with regards to whatever NVIDIA is planning.

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/180055-july-11th-2014-the-wan-show-document/

In this week's WAN show above Linus shares some interesting NVIDIA information about an embargo...at 1:02:50...so where there is smoke....there must be an OC GPU

I cant decide if i should get this 4k screen when it comes out. Cant figure out how much gsync is going to help with the smoothness compared to a non gsync model. Got such a huuuuge upgrade itch. If it were any other 60hz 4k screen without any sort of adaptive sync i would easily pass on the spot.

Hoping that we might see a 30-32 inch 4k gsync model sooner or later. Because atleast i can convince myself that i will get more real estate and a bigger screen than my current 27" 1080p monitor.
