4k2k Display with NVIDIA® G-SYNC - Acer XB280HK

Thanks for the advice!

My setup is going to be used mainly for music production and photoshop and fine art rendering hence me wanting to max out the CPU and Ram. Gaming is going to something I will do but it isn't my absolute priority.

I'm new to all this stuff so I don't know the ins and outs of all the available kit and I'm trying to settle on what to buy. Just when I think I'm set on something and getting the mutz nutz, you fellas go and suggest options to save me a load of cash!

So the 4960X V's the 4930K and I see there is an OEM of the 4930 that's cheaper again. If they are the same chip then why is one 3.6Ghz and one 3.4Ghz and why the huge price difference? Also what is different about the OEM chip?

I did have a more budget conscious alternative rig too:

ASUS Maximus VII Hero Z97 with 4790K Devils Canyon and 32GB Hyper X Beast and the INNO card.

Don't want to hijack the thread here but I could do with someone who really knows their stuff to help me get this right. I have a thread here if you guys feel like helping me out:

I think it would be a good move to go with a 4K large monitor if I can.

I believe the 4960x has a very very slightly larger l3 cache. Though nothing notciable. Run a 4960x and a 4930k at 4.5ghz for example there would be absolutely zero difference. The cheaper OEM chips are brown box and 1 year warranty, retail is Intel packaging and 3 year warranty.

I would stick to x79 if you're doing Photoshop stuff, iirc the quad channel memory bandwidth should help out. Would 64gb be wasted? 32gb might be a better option if so, again more money saved to spend in other parts.

Put a spec me thread up in general hardware, those boys should be able to spec you the best parts for the money required.

Is it possible to have a zero dead pixel policy at checkout? I know that Acer have mentioned in their policy that if I wanted Class 1 then I would need to contact the reseller.

Yeah good to know that also. Good one mate.

Nope as we don't open them up, doing so would make them second hand.

76 left now!!

Hmm... is it possible to check the monitor before shipping? Or when you say "opening them up" is that the actual box?

Yeah I've just been looking at the DSR and while I could DSR it I don't think I would be able to at least got the postage money back because the ISO 13406-2 standard if the dead pixels fall within that. For my work it's critical to have Class 1. Having said that though I know that dead pixels is highly uncommon nowadays but still it's nice to have some form of reassurance.

A pixel check service would be good, it wouldn't really make the monitor 2nd hand either as you'd be opening it yourself on arrival to check? I think it could actually save some hassle for OCUK with returns :)

@Gregster

I see you have ordered one too. Hopefully it will be as great as the samsung regarding the picture quality. Can't wait to review this come september!

Nice Vega. I was so impressed with the Sammy and wasn't expecting it to be that good in truth. The Acer is cut from the same panel as the Sammy and I have been begging to have a play with G-Sync, so it was a good move to grab this.

Come September, I can see a few kids in sweetshops faces :D

hello @VEGACORTEZ and @Gregster,

Congrats on your order, I've ordered mine as well and think I'm in the first 20 so hopefully get it before Sept 5th as that seems a long time away!

One question I'm struggling with as I'm doing a new build, what graphics card are you planning to use with your new 4K G-sync monitor? I have another 30 days or so to decide before I order and I'm considering a Titan Black (seems like overkill in money terms for very little benefit), an aftermarket OC 780ti 3GB from EVGA/Inno3D or a 780 6gb OC aftermarket card (possibly in SLI but with Maxwell around the corner seems like a waste?)

I'm conscious that Maxwell is just around the corner and will probably buy a maxwell card in the next 12 months so don't want to waste unnecessary money on an expensive card if I can avoid it.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Hey Joe and welcome to the forums :)

Maxwell (high end) is rumored to be here next year (possibly March at a guess), so depending on what you want from settings will decide what way to go.

If you wanted max settings or near as damn it, I would go for a pair of 780 6GB cards but if you are happy to drop settings, I would grab a 3GB 780 and wait it out for high end Maxwell.

I did some testing on a single card to show what is what.

Hope that helps :)
