sig has gone to palace. best for the player as he wasn't getting a look in but he was always useful for the odd crucial goal or two

Most of Siggy's goals were outrageously important for Spurs, much like Dempsey. Neither scored many but the ones they did score were crucial.

I would have thought that Pochetinno would have appreciated a player like him in the squad. He is similar to Lallana in that he is good on both feet, can play anywhere up top and can drive inside or hit the line.

I had hoped that the whole Spurs squad had been given carte blanche especially as some of the rumoured signings are duplicates of what we have rather than upgrades.

Schneiderlin; Sandro, Dembele, Capoue, Paulinho
Bony; Adebayor, Soldado
Rodriguez; Siggy, Lamela, Eriksen, Townsend, Lennon

I wish managers would look to get the best out of players that they already have rather than grasping at like for like replacements

Although Van Gaal suggested that we wouldn't make any signings for about 4 weeks I would assume the Carrick injury might accelerate this.

Interesting fact about Mr Carrick as well...

Manchester United won 62.9% of the last 132 PL games Michael Carrick started in the last 5 seasons compared to 72.4% of the 58 he didn't.

Yet another meaningless stat - fantastic!!!

(for an example is that all his starts as a centre half included - which is quite a few in the last few years - not to mention the fact that these also include when Vidic and Rio have been out injured a considerable amount which means the centre halfs behind him were also likely to be questionable - even without considering who was further forward actually trying to score goals)

But hey stats mean everything - thats why politicians rely on them....

Remy is a bit too similar to Sturridge IMO. Sure Remy can play when Sturridge is injured or as part of a rotation but I can't really see them playing well within the same team.

Stats are quite often meaningless however a 10% difference in win/loss ratio when he is playing is quite a marked gap. He hasn't played centre back that often and the stats are over 5 years. Vidic and Ferdinand we're solid as hell for a lot of that.

R.I.P to John Alder and Liam Sweeney, 2 NUFC fans who were travelling to support their team in pre-season, were on Flight MH17 that was shot down.

and we have been shaky at the back for the last two seasons at least - oh what a coincidence when Rio and Vidic havent been playing as much what a surprise.

Given how bad last season was, no a 10% difference (given thats give or take 33% of the games) is not a big variance

edit - sorry near enough 25%

That would make much more sense. Remy, like Borini, could play wide of a 3 if needed and wouldn't be a bad 3rd choice or partner for Sturridge if we played 2 up front.

The problem with signing somebody like Cavani or any other top class striker is how you keep him and Sturridge both happy.

I mentioned before that we don't just need to replace Suarez's ability but his versatility. When available both Sturridge and Suarez were always in the side yet in all the games they played together, we probably only played with them both up front 50% of the time. Suarez would either play off the front or wide in a 4-3-3.

If we signed somebody like Cavani we'd have to play with 2 up front nearly every game and I don't think Rodgers wants to.

In an ideal world we need to find another top class striker that can both play through the middle (on his own or in a 2) but also off the front and/or as a wide forward. If we can't do that then the priority should be somebody that can play through the middle on his own but is also happy playing 2nd fiddle to/competing with Sturridge.

To be fair I didn't rate Cavani that much. Difference between him and Andy Carrol was a good set of cheek bones etc. However he does seem to play that role of a wide forward left hand side. Dare I say he looked half decent against (a very average) England at the WC

I wish Vidal would stop giving interviews while he's on holiday in Chile, he's certainly not ruling out leaving Juventus. :/

I'm hoping we're getting a deal sorted with his agent (that's my current take on it), before submitting the bid Juve want, which is apparently around €50m.

But who knows...

I just want to see him turn up to Manchester airport in a city shirt.

Also, what's with the rumours of Reus to Liverpool. Never going to happen, stop trying to get my hopes up. :(

Well, Yaya Toure has confirmed he's staying at City today, so that makes them less likely as they've got Fernando and Fernandinho too.

Only other club mentioned are Real Madrid and they're quite well stocked, plus they've just got Kroos and are getting Rodriguez soon (different position but still).

Interesting article on how Khedira would fit into a Chelsea or Arsenal squad. The author thinks he would be better suited to Cheslea, and that Arsenal should chase a more defensive-minded midfielder.

I wouldn't mind seeing Khedira at Chelsea, though the quoted £200k per week seems excessive. I think Jose will sign a box to box midfielder before the end of the window, and this will be the last big signing of the year. Pogba would be the ideal purchase, but prising him from Juve will be difficult (especially if Man U get Vidal), but Khedira is a good alternative. I think Fabregas will be played in a more advanced role, and Oscar will play a few games out wide.

Seems like this deal could well happen once United cough up the right offer, no penny pinching please!

If it was up to me I'd tell you to name your price. :(

We've just lost Carrick for 3 months and Anderson is out of the tour too (probably leaving anyway). So we're left with one good central midfielder (Herrera), should hurry the deal along if indeed there is one...

How do you feel about Allegri? Seems Juve fans in general aren't happy with his appointment.
