Depends where you read Baz. I've read people say we're about to close the deal, others say there's been no contact made.

I've not been paying too much attention, what's going on with Vidal. When I check this thread from time to time he's either definitely joining Utd or defineltly not.

Are the links just the usual twitter nonsense?

I think there's more to it than that. Quick summary:

Media in Chile are convinced he's joining/we're negotiating for him, for starters. Local media tend to have contacts with agents and players friends/family, as a general rule. Like with Lovren earlier this evening, and many others before.

Italian papers say the same as above. Pretty much every Italian journalist is under the impression he'll go for the right price (somewhere around £40m).

Vidal has been asked about it and has just said his agent deals with it, it's nice to be linked, the usual. But hasn't come close to ruling it out. He's also said a few things that imply some very real interest, depending how you take them.

Andy Mitten (who is fairly reliable when it comes to Man Utd) thinks we're negotiating for him.

Vidal has just put his house in Italy up for sale (I know, I know).

Marotta (Juve director general) said they'd never "put him up for sale", but it's up to the player at the end of the day.

Nedved (other Juve director) said just recently they'd have to consider any large offers for players, including Vidal.

Man Utd have denied official interest but they always do that these days, regardless.

There's obviously a chance it could all be false, but there seems to be a bit too much in it for that. On top of all that we know for a fact Van Gaal rates him and currently has a lot of money and a rubbish midfield...

My personal take on it is (having read everything), Juventus have told us an acceptable price, we haven't actually bid yet, but we've sorted out a deal with his agent.

It'd be pretty much the perfect signing for us, and I don't think it'll happen despite the above, but I really hope so. :(

Well the funny thing is about Lucarocks is that there was no real reason for him to say "it is 100% not happening". If he had just said "I'm a Juve fan, I don't think it'll happen because..." nobody would have bat an eyelid.

It was the whole "I can guarantee 100% it's not happening" thing which made him look daft :p.

And that remains the case even if Vidal stays at Juve as he already conceded a few pages back. If he had stuck to his 100% not happening line and then it hadn't happened he may have saved some face. Alas... :p

It confused me, I was wondering if he secretly had some kind of insider information being fed to him that gave him the confidence to say it wouldn't happen 100%.

Basically lucas threw me a massive curveball and I don't know whether to catch it or not. :p

Well it's pretty interesting if your a Utd fan. I'd suggest Collymore has his ears closer to the ground than at least one or two members on here ;)

This was the same Stan Collymore who came out and said that Rooney to City was a 100% certainty, that he was betting his reputation on it! that he had cast Iron sources from inside both clubs that the deal was done and it would be announced in 48 hours time.

Then 24 hours later Rooney signs a new contract with United.

Just watched Ed Woodward's extended interview on MUTV, he's pretty much confirmed we're working on various transfer targets and we have the finances to do things that other clubs can't. Our goal is to win the league as quickly as possible, not just top four.

Interestingly, he said he doesn't want to see the best players in the world going to the Spanish clubs, he thinks we should be buying them. We have no fixed budget.

Also said he's expecting a few players to leave. He came across very well, but talk is cheap, hopefully he won't let us down.

We have never bid for the best players in the world or actually stopped them from going to Spain.

what makes anyone think this will start now? Sure once we bid for Ronaldinho but by refusing to pay the right amount we lost out. Typically though we do not even bid let alone make competative bids.

English clubs can compete financially with RM and Barca I'm afraid :(

And besides Chelsea. There is not a luxury top top club in london. Location is a big factor as well. I think if United where a London team they would attract a bit more players

Of course he'll need to prove it, but assuming we're winning things, there's no reason we couldn't make big money signings. Just because we haven't in the past doesn't mean we don't plan to in future, especially as we're continuing to make more money.

If you believe the media, we offered €120m to stop Bale going to Real Madrid, but he had his heart set on it (which is obviously an issue).

Not all bids come out in the paper. Once again a nonsense post. If we do bid for any World Class talent then you would have us believe they were unreachable. As has been said many many times before (but you refuse to listen) Not all massive bids are cash bids

So if we bid £30m for player X compared to Barca's bid of £30m it could be we do so much up front and the rest based on appearances, goals etc. Barca could offer more cash but less in terms of add ons

Another thing that you wont see from Football manager is that in England we will have to pay a disproportiante wage compared to Spanish clubs in order for the player to get the same offer per week due to taxation. UK tax rate for high earners is circa 50% compared to spain at circa 25%

Or to put into context, player X demands £200k a week NET

At Real Madrid, they would have to pay £266k

At Man Utd they would have to pay closer to £400k

Thats not a case of never bidding on the best players, thats just being prudent. Conversley, thats why a lot of talent goes to Spain due to the lower tax rate

French papers saying that Drogba will sign for Chelsea next week.

I'd love to see Drogba back, as a coach for Lukaku and as a third striker to make a few late sub appearances. He's getting on, yes, but I think there's still place for Drogba - seeing 18 stone of Drogba come charging on at 75mins would give a tired defence something to think about!

18 stone? Is this a fat Drogba lookalike?

Anyway, awesome news. I got pretty turned on.

Actually, tax rates are in Football Manager these days ;)
