BMW and M Power Owners

@ thewanted - black grills look good, but that's annoying that it was damage that happened prior to this :(

Thanks :)

Fortunately I was going to swap out the grilles for the blacks at some point anyway. This just helped to speed up the process.

I'm just really angry that people feel it's okay to damage other people's property without doing the right thing and owning up to it. Society really has taken a nosedive.

Yea, in the 1980's nobody ever damaged cars.

I was brought up to be honest and decent. Seems like it's prevalent now to be quite the opposite in our dog-eat-dog culture. However, I'll be the first to put my hand up and say that I have not done a degree in Sociology, and am only expressing my personal (and somewhat emotional) opinion.

I wasn't in the UK in the 80s. Do let me know how bad it was so I can feel better about my misfortune.

ANYWAY...

My Harmon Kardon system is vibrating like the clappers in my E46, I think it's something to do with the parcel shelf speakers, or maybe the amp? Has anyone tried the tennis ball trick (or even heard of it)? If it's the speakers, is it worth sourcing speakers from eBay or taking it to be a BMW garage?

Hi there

This is probably a question for Fox, but does anyone know the weight of the V8 M3 coupe? I've seen as low as 1580kg and as high as 1740kg, what is the weight with no driver, no fuel etc. as per most other cars are weighed. :)

Unfortunately, to do it properly it's a proper pain in the arse job. You've got to take apart the rear interior in it's entirety to lay some sound absorbing material down. And doing this you risk snapping multiple clips etc and causing more vibration and rattles than before.

Or just use the tennis ball trick which may take away 70% of the vibration.

BMW give their kerb weights including a driver, some luggage and 90% tank of fuel. This gives 1655kg. If you want to know the weight of the car minus all of the above, it's about 1580kg which is why you're getting conflicting weights.

I'll go with the tennis ball trick in the meantime and if it's still not having the desired effect I may start again with the entire sound system.

The Harmon Kardon in my '54 330Ci is not as good as my earlier HK in the '01 330i, either. I hope it's simply due to the vibrations but reading up about it, it seems perhaps it's just not as good a system.

Cheers

Thanks no to bad then.

I drove a DCT before I got the 911, it was stunning and very quick but I could feel its weight and it did not offer up the driver feedback and handling I wanted.

But now I am thinking of something less raw and more GT and as I've got the E46 M3 for track work I am thinking about a V8 one either 2009 basic model or a 2011 model with all the toys as replacement if I don't like the new Mustang. :)

Selling the 911 ?

New day, New noise from my cheap BMW. At slow speeds, more often when gradually accelerating than breaking or coasting, I can hear a rubbing sound coming from (I think) the front of the car from either both left and right sides of or the 'middle of the front'. I can hear it up to about 30mph Windows up or down at which point it either stops or ambient noise drowns it out. I'm not sure if I'm imagining it but it seems to need a little more acceleration to get moving from a standstill.

Any ideas? I'm wondering if it is rust in or on the breaks somewhere?

Edit- It didn't make the noise as I set off this morning, but did after 45 mins on the motorway when I arrived at work. Oddly, it doesn't make the noise when I'm turning...

Need a better description really, can you describe the noise a bit better?

Could be as simple as needing to bend the disc guards back a bit at the front, or something stuck to a tyre, bit of loose trim in the arch etc etc

Anyone any experience of replacing the seat belt pusher outer on an e92?

My wife used it last but strongly suggests she didn't break it. It came out but went straight back in and caught the seatbelt. When she yanked it a loud snap was heard(possibly a spring snapping?) and now it stops retracting just before the end folds in to slot back into the casing.

Pulling at the seatbelt did not in anyway break this according to my wife.

The noise sounds non metallic and is quite low pitched similar to the sound of driving with the handbrake on. It is constant rather than pulsing as the wheel goes round. It is not linked to engine revolutions. It happens when under breaking and coasting. The tyres are Michelins pilot sport 3's (my googling suggested that putting Michelins on some people's cars seemed to fix the problem for some people!) It seems to be louder or more 'aggressive or harsh a sound when travelling under 10mph.

definitely the front? Odd that you say it sounds a bit like driving with the handbrake on, having just had the shoes replaced... they not have been set correctly.

Jack the back end up and see how much resistance there is when turning the wheels by hand
