Capital One Cup - Second Round ** Spoilers ** [26/27 August 2014]

What's your point then? You want him gone because he put out a bad team in a competition that nobody seems to care much about?

I find your attitude to this cup laughable, you would think, a new manager, after the season you just had and without Champions League football would look to go as far as possible in any competition you are in, but you're already saying nobody cares about it?

Maybe it's an attitude problem with your whole club/fan base that needs to be looked at.

Please, I didn't say that, I meant people on average don't seem to care about it.

I thought the team we put out was too weak, at the very least we should have had experienced players on the bench. We should have tried to win, but I'm not devastated we've been knocked out.

The reality is, most of the bigger clubs (fans and managers alike) don't care a great deal about the league cup. Rightly or wrongly.

Upon reflection I did word that a bit strongly.

I love how as soon as United go out the League Cup is suddenly a big deal. I can remember several times us winning it and being told it was a competition that didn't mean anything.

What is actually the prize money for winning it? I wouldn't be surprised if that cup we won preseason was more valuable to us.

It's suddenly a big deal for four reasons :

1) It's one of only 3 trophies you can win
2) It's one of 2 trophies you have any chance of winning
3) Progress was an opportunity for your new manager to team build
4) You got beat 4-0 by a League 1 side

But apparently non of these are a big deal?

You're still living in the past. Like most Man U fans.

All this crying about "the players are adapting to a new system" is nonsense. If professional footballers can't learn how to play a little bit differently then they're terrible and shouldn't be playing at PL level. If that's the case and the manager hasn't identified those players, then the manager is also real bad.

Come now, its not quite that simple. You have to move and behave in an entirely different way to other formations. You are trying to adapt to where team mates are, where the ball is, how the opposition are attacking, where the gaps are. There are so many things involved in positional play in football. If it was that simple then you wouldn't find such a huge difference between teams like Germany and Belgium. Both have a very good set of players. One team moves as one and is positionally brilliant and the other is bang average despite having arguably just as good players in most positions.
