Jurassic World

It's a shame that Pete Postlethwaite passed away, this movie would benefit by having Roland Tembo on the hunt.

One of the best things about 2. A shame. :(

I dunno what to make of the plot for this - I suppose the action will be good, but the plot looks like a convoluted contrived mess.

First film, ok while not true to the book, was pretty much my favourite film ever. I really hope they do this justice.

Well not really, supposedly the park has been established for 10 years, so I fail to see how it's a reboot.

Have a look around at some of the comments by Sam Neill who said its essentially a reboot or a "re-jig" of the franchise. The fact there's not a single character in it from any of the previous movies seems to reinforce that. Apparently one of the only things that links it to the previous movies is the name of the island and a statue of John Hammond and that's it.

There's also the fact that they're obviously back to the cloning dinosaurs routine again as seen in the trailer, so its essentially doing an origin story for itself so it can stand alone from the previous movies.

Don't forget the inclusion of the character Henry Wu, who was one of the scientists in the first film.

This looks pretty horrible.

I'd like to see them tackle the cloning in a way that mirrors ethical issues we have with it in science today - make it into something with more of a deeper, mature undertone.

I mean, I do like monster movies and will happily sit down and watch almost anything with monsters, aliens, demons running around murdering people but the genre is pretty much full of absolute trash with only a few gems hidden in - I can't see this being a gem.

I'll rent it from PSN or something this time next year so guess I needn't worry about it right now.

Just another concept I see huge potential in (for my tastes) but once again not being realised because the majority of peopel seem like like things I hate- woe is me

Ethical issue? Deeper, mature undertone?

You do realise that the movie is intended to entertain and make money right? That kind of plot would hardly stick bums on seats in the cinema and certainly won't get the kids excited.

I agree it looks terrible but I also don't want a 2hr Nat Geo documentary about ethical issues.

Yeah, not really up for Tyrannosaurs in the mist or Dances with Stegosaurus' tbh.

This is more of a How to train your Velociraptor and that's fine with me :)

I know - I wouldn't expect this from a blockbuster movie - it would just be my preference.

It's possible to make a film incredibly entertaining from a visual and pure entertainment point of view while also containing an intellectually stimulating subject matter and I just think this subject could work well if done right.

A good example of this would be something like Wall-E - on the face of it a basic animated childrens movie (which it was) but it also tackles more mature subjects. It doesn't feel like 1 or the other - it just has both because it's well written and directed.
There are plenty people in the industry talented enough to get ticket sales, interest the kids, give it some mature themes and keep in line with the brand expectations of marketing other products such as toys, clothes etc.
I guess they just think why do all that extra effort when the basic generic template sells all the tickets you ever need to.

just a bit annoying that you could add in other things without sacrificing that.

Of course it's a risk because if it's not done right it'll just bomb - it's also hard to market so it'll never happen.

But, the potential remains.
