LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Bought one myself earlier today when I noticed the price had dropped as you say. I have been stalking this monitor for a long time, but the recent flurry of curved 34" have been grabbing all the attention and I was briefly tempted.

After noticing the price drop and free shipping on the 34UM95 last night I had a moment of clarity and switched back to thinking flat was all I wanted/needed especially given curved now came with a 50% cost premium!

I also want to wall mount mine on a slim VESA bracket so flat is hopefully going to give the best results on this point too.

Will let you know tomorrow what I think of mine when it arrives :)

Would really appreciate to hear your thoughts on the monitor once it arrives.

I'm currently running a 23" Alienware AW2310 TN 120Hz 1080p panel and a Dell U2007WFP 20" IPS 1680x1050 panel. The colours/contrast are particularly poor on the AW2310 even compared to my now very old 2007WFP so I really want to go back to an IPS panel. Not bothered about the refresh rate as I didn't notice much difference between 60Hz and 120Hz personally.

What kind of setup are you using just now?
 
Just ordered an LG calibrator from the place with lots of rain and trees for £5.18, hopefully the order goes through as I believe it was mentioned for that price in this thread a while ago so seems like a good deal for other recent or new purchasers of this monitor here.

Well it arrived at lunchtime today and I briefly unboxed it and I have to say that my initial impressions about the look / quality are very positive. I did have a little hesitation about LG as we have a lot of 29UM65 monitors at work, but I have to say the quality of the 34UM95 seems significantly better - much nicer materials and finish. :)

I currently run a Dell 2407WFP (1920x1200) so coming from a similar-ish setup to you and very much use to the overall quality of the Dell. I will be running the LG on a GTX780Ti.

Will post again once I have it all hooked up.

Does anyone know how long this monitor will be reduced to £660 for by the way?

Edit: Just to answer my own question given this is a black Friday deal I presume the answer is the standard one? If anyone knows if I'm wrong please let me know.

Well mixed feelings at the moment I'm afraid. The screen itself is stunning and 21:9 is just awesome, however I appear to have a bleeder! Very bad in the bottom left corner - it was instantly noticeable on first boot and I wasn't even looking out for it. You don't even need a dark room to see it, its that obvious.

I've had the screen on for a couple of hours and its a tiny bit better but way off being acceptable, so sadly this one is going to have to go back - I shall call OC later on. However I am so impressed with the screen that I intend to try again with another one.

So disappointing that everyone seems to be having such a bad time with this LG model. The reviews are so mixed and for every good one there seem to be several people with complaints about it. :( I thought it was maybe a case of people with issues shouting loudest and the majority being quiet and happy with their monitors however virtually every person I've asked has reported issues with it so I'm not willing to take a chance on it anymore even at the reduced price.

Guess I'll hold fire and see what the other manufacturers can come up with 34" 21:9 wise.

Hope your next monitor is a good un' BTW.

Also, is it just me or is pretty much every forum post about this monitor on the web written by mrk/Robbie Khan :D

If you only have bleed in the bottom left or right corner with these monitors and none or hardly any in the top corners I would really recommend the bezel trick to anyone who is thinking of sending theres back. Iv had four of these monitor and every single one had bleed...but with the last one I decided to do unclip the bezel in the bottom left and right corners and I pretty much have a perfect screen now when it comes to uniformity. I cant see any bleed at all in regular viewing now and these monitors are stunning for gaming.
 
Yeah that's what I said too...its so easy to do and takes only a few minutes but makes a huge difference to your screen. Everyone with bleed in the bottom corners should do it as none of these screens are perfect but doing the bezel thing brings them pretty close.

Agreed - 10s with a credit card - mine is out about 1mm and the screen is now perfect. Agreed it should be already but its hardly the end of the world to just fix it yourself, reduce the stress and get on with life/using it.
 
Does anyone else still have the screen tearing down the center of the screen issue with this monitor?
Its the only thing every truly making me love this screen 100% no bleed but sometimes that issue really annoys me and happens on anything. You just get a tear down the center of the screen like theres 2 separate panels in the screen and the right side one gets stuck occasionally for a brief second and the screen tears down the middle. My old monitors didn't have this but they had bad bleed.
 
I have the curved 34UC97. I occasionally see a vertical tear, nothing to upset me too much, but still odd. What's more interesting is once so far, just once, the monitor returned from sleep only displaying the login screen on the right hand side of the panel! Although it appears to Windows as a single panel it does look like, internally, something different is going on.
 
As the ports face backwards wall mounting the 34UM95 using a flush VESA bracket seems to cause problems with the Displayport cable as the end is too long and inflexible.

An adapter seems like the obvious answer but I cant find one. Does anybody know where to buy a right angled adapter like the one below but Male-Female, not Male-Male!

I'm struggling with using Display port on this monitor with the recent display drivers from nVidia. 344.65 and 75 are causing black screens and flickering. Anyone else having these issues? The monitor is fine using HDMI, albeit fine at 50hz...
