LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Hey guys,

Can someone with a single 980 and a 32um95 monitor give us some benchmarks?

Much appreciated!

Well I have a single 780Ti (which has a very similar level of performance to the 980) and I have absolutely no issues with all my games running on Ultra on a 34UM95.

That said I don't tend to play some of the insane framerate FPS games that some of you do, so I wouldn't class my comments in the same category as those from a hardcore FPS gamer, but I would be surprised if your 980 wasn't more than good enough for 99% of games.

I have the curved 34UC97. I occasionally see a vertical tear
what GPU/drivers do you have?

Does anyone else still have the screen tearing down the center of the screen issue with this monitor?
mine is still here with 280X + 14.12 Omega, and DP1.2 did not get better over time
and it's still annoying... I'm waiting to see FreeSync version to maybe change...

I'm not in front of the computer right now, but roughly one month old GeForce drivers with a GTX780. The only updates since have been, as far as I can see, purely game-ready updates. It's rare enough that I personally don't find it annoying, especially as I don't really watch movies on it and I'm kinda used to horizontal tearing when gaming anyway, but I understand people that do and it's certainly odd/interesting.

FYI, I have never had that problem where the desktop appeared on only half of the display again. But I think that must show that internally the monitor consists of 2 logical panels.

the new nvidia driver hotfix 344.80 fixed few issues with DP.
-GPU outputs fuzzy lines over DisplayPort after a period of time
-System hang up and black screen after power on with some monitors (DP1.2 & 4K/60Hz)

I see.
On [H] forum thread (like last 10 pages or so) I saw a guy who has this with his 970 and over DP1.2/1.1 and HDMI, so chances are this issue is caused by the monitor itself and not gpu drivers/brand. Another guy has it with the curved version, also his screen woke up once with just the left half on.
So yeah, maybe to save production costs/recycle panels LG uses tiled versions on some of the batches...or all of them and it goes down to the quality of firmware/electronics.

I don't think we will see some kind of software update from LG (software page was not updated since july...), so I guess the issue is here to stay.

At first I was not really paying attention, when it happened I was not sure if I saw something, but now after like 6 months (wow, did not realize it is that "old"), I find myself looking for it, like when I'm watching a video I sometimes say to myself "hmm it's been a while" and sure enough it pops in the next 2 minutes, it almost makes me cringe... and this is a 800euro monitor!

I bought a LG 34UM95 a couple of weeks ago and the light bleed was horrendous to say the least.......i quickly got a replacement from debenhams and the 2nd one is just as bad so thats going back too with a full refund.

I have been in touch with OC UK to see what the policies for returns and repair on these are, as i have a feeling they could all be like this and would want it repaired rather than just keep getting replaced, and they are happy to do this. :)

That first picture is very reminiscent of my first 34UM95 too, it was sent back for a swap with OCUK and the return I got was much improved almost entirely clear of bleed. It's definitely a widespread problem with these panels but not every single one!

Hmm, so difficult to judge backlight bleed from camera shots. I have an IPS display (Dell U2007WFP) and if I point my phone camera at it on a black background then then you can see orange patches around the corners and towards the middle of the screen. However, to me at least, they aren't really visible to the naked eye and tend to come and go depending on how you focus the camera. Is there a better way to test or a specific setting I should be using for the camera?

Would you say the bleed above was visible to yourself in a lit room when gaming?

I used my DSLR camera with a faster shutter speed etc to really show exactly what i was seeing.... as my cheaper compact camera made it look worse than what it was and wasnt a true representation of what it looked like to the naked eye......So this is probably as close as you will get to what it actually looks like in real life through the daytime.

I am now currently looking at the 4K Philips BDM4065UC 40" as the reviews are quite good. ;)

Ah, if that picture is a genuine reflection of what you're seeing when looking at the monitor then I can see why you wanted rid of it. I was looking at getting Dell's version of this monitor (U3415W) but it uses the same curved LG Panel so I'm worried it'll have a similar level of bleed.

I don't want to go 4k yet due to Windows scaling issues and the GPU horsepower required to drive it so I'm kind of between either going for a 34" 21:9 or 2x27" 1440p monitors. I prefer the idea of a single 34" 21:9 but they all (Dell and AOC) seem to have similar issues due to using LG panels. I'm thinking I'll take a punt on the Dell 34" though as I really want to move away from a dual monitor setup.

There's also a Samsung VA 34" 21:9 monitor due out in another fortnight which uses a Samsung panel. I'd expect that to have better black and less backlight bleed but possibly at the expense of more motion blur when gaming. Might wait for that. If I don't buy something in the next month I'll be forever waiting for a 34" 21:9 144Hz OLED Freesync monitor that probably wont appear for another year or two. By which time there will likely be something else 'worth waiting for' and I'll find another reason not to buy it ...... :D

Will this run at full res over HDMI on a 970?

I want to use the DP on my laptop (which doesn't have any other option) and also connect my main PC.

Im in the same boat really.....love the 34" 21:9 panel and it fits perfectly on my desk......i have measured the Philips BDM4065UC 40" 4K Monitor and its too big, but i can make some adjustments to make it fit....whats the windows scaling issues you talking about?....they mentioned it on the review for the Philips Monitor and said it was ok?

Im just in the process of getting a GTX970 so i hope this is enough to run he 4k Monitor?

Never heard anything about a samsung 21:9 monitor.....do you know the Model number?.....just googled it and found a curved one to pre ordr on OCUK .....

is this it? Samsung S34E790C http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-211-SA&groupid=17&catid=2908&subcat=0

In which games? I've got Alien: Isolation and Far Cry 4 currently installed being the latest titles :p

Both run superbly. Alien naturally maxes out, 60fps+ at all times. Far Cry 4 gets 45fps average throughout.

hey mrk sorry to bother you but.. have you or anyone else here got decent links for 3440x1440 wallpapers??

getting a lot of crap from google :S

I've been looking through this thread since I'm waiting for this monitor to arrive having ordered it from OcUK yesterday. I usually use this site when looking for high resolution wallpapers, there's quite a few available at 3440x1440.

So what kind of backlight bleed on these is acceptable? My folks got me this one from OCUK for Christmas. The backlight bleed in the image looks worse than it actually is -and in light conditions- is non existant.

What's the best way to proceed? I note that LG apparently has an on-site warranty. Do they repair on-site?
