LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

I'm totally at a loss now with what to do for a monitor, to date in the last month I have had:

2 x UM95 both returned due too back light bleed and dead pixel in middle ( no problems returning them to ..cannot say)
1 x Rog swift damaged on delivery but after seeing the 21.9 wide screen they don't quite do it for me so returned with no exchange and no problems returning from ... cannot say

and then this the UC97 Curve same issues with back light bleed and at the moment a few problems getting this returned

so here I am with a £1000 to spend and what do I buy?

wait for reviews of the samsung 34", imo

So, ok, have the bleed manageable.

Now maybe someone can explain a way around this next annoyance.

When the PC puts the display into standby, the monitor keeps going into some other mode where it displays on 'no signal ' message on a grey screen. Why the **** would they do that?

I often have the PC running with display in standby while I sleep. How do I get around this?

I'm pretty sure someone talks about trying to circumvent the sleep issue in this thread - have a read:

Failing that you might need to harass LG or wait for a firmware update :/

Yeah, think i have tried all the suggestions on there.

Make sure on-board display not enabled, don't enable displayport 1.2.

I will not be trying to create custom resolutions though.

Can I connect my gpu to one of the thunderbolt ports? I am sure I can connect a displayport screen to a thunderbolt port, but not sure of the other way on.

This will be the tipping point for me and this display if I can not find a solution. And a solution does not constitute "Just turn the display off"

I have given up and am returning mine because of this. I use(d) it on a MacBook Pro over thunderbolt and a new gaming rig with 2x 980gtx. The wake from sleep problem was a nightmare as it also happens switching between inputs, not just after sleep, or at least once it's bugged once it needs power cycling to get it going again.

Given the driver bugs with my 980s had a really rough time trouble shooting this, as it turns out both cards and monitors got issues.

From reading hardforum one work around is to use hdmi with custom display profile, but I keep monitors a long time and 800 quid for something with a duff display port doesn't work for me.

Also the menu system is horrible for changing inputs. They put that worthless reader mode on the easy access part, so it takes about 5 clicks to change inout, and that's after waiting 2 seconds for the menu to even appear.

Such a shame as it is a lovely display. According to a poster on hardforum the curved one doesn't have the dvi problems, so I may pick one up once the price stops having its scarcity premium,

I have figured out how to get the bleed to an acceptable level, so looks like I will probably be keeping this.

How does the KVM work on this thing?

I want to switch my m+k between PC and mac.

What do I need to connect where?

The mac am assuming will simply connect via thunderbolt (don't have cable yet), but then do I connect the PC to the "upstream" connection?

How would I then swap?

Well it won't work reliably, but what in theory you do is attach tb to Mac and monitor, then displayport + usb out to pc. Then you switch input on monitor which sadly takes far too much effort. Then you pray the sleep bug doesn't manifest (it will..) and bobs your uncle. It so nearly works beautifully....

For AMD GPU users looking at this monitor, you might want to hold of for a bit longer :D

Hi there

Spoke to LG.

Hoping to get 29" and 34" super-wide flat IPS panels early next year with FreeSync which shall be exclusive to OcUK in UK. :D

So IPS and Freesync, boooooooooooooooooom! :)

So, as expected, connecting via displayport out on my gpu to the thunderbolt doesn't work.

Using dvi to hdmi adapter results in 50Hz only.

Starting to no like this bloody monitor.

I did, but standby mode does not work over displayport.

Ok, not tried it on mine.

Here is mine :)

Using the SilverStone ARM11SC Single Arm from OcUK.

I have not been able to properly connected to my Mac Pro, as I had to get a low end graphics card to replace the broken one (I think thats the reason).

The desk is temporary until I find a flat to buy...

Backlight bleed anyone?

Can't get the calibration software working either - says its not connected via USB when it clearly is - might have to go back, sorry

By the way, if anyone is struggling with the standby thing, Costco sell a surge protected 8 gang extension which has Master and Slave power options - i.e. plug your PC into the Master, with the screen (and speakers for instance) into the Slave - and so, only when the PC switches on will the screen / speakers have power - and visa versa, when you switch off the PC, the power is cut to the screen and speakers.

I saw that in my searches for solution, but unfortunately that won't work when I want the PC on and simply have the monitor in standby.

Honestly, am just wondering if shouldn't just bite the bullet and resort to simply turning monitor on/off manually.

I consider this to be an actual problem with the monitor, but there are no other screens with the KVM built in, which would be really nice to have.

And I wonder if I nag the right people enough if we may get LG to issue a firmware update that assigns the back joystick position to only be assigned ot input changing, rather than alternating between input and that useless reader mode...

They might, but I wouldn't count on . The curved one apparently doesn't have the sleep problem, so that's an option once of stop trying to scalp us for it. Having said that I'm now looking at that 40" Philips 4k jobbeie as an option. Also I wouldn't be surprised if lg fix the dvi problem in at least future models given they clearly know about it as it's now fixed on the newer model. This is the problem I have with lg though, I don't have any faith in their engineering support. Only thing likely to push them is if enough get sent back due to this bug. Mine gets picked up today...
