Breastfeeding in restaurants

Public breastfeeding is uncomfortable to people around, nobody wants to see saggy hooters while eating thanks. Mum's have a right to feed their children sure but be classy and respectful about it, use a cover or go to your car, nobody wants to see it.

Some people are right prudes aren't they. It's boobs people, she's not flashing her nether regions! How people can be offended by a piece of flesh I will never know.

And boobs are not sexual objects, we've just labeled them as such. I am a man and love a good pair of boobs like any other man and when I see a good pair of course the fella gets excited but I know that boobs are for feeding kids, not for men to play with - though we do enjoy them!

If a mum wants to feed her kid because he/she is hungry then she should be able too without being judged by people.

Well, actually they are.

The breasts of apes are much different: miles smaller, yet still perfectly functional for nursing - you know why human breasts are bigger? They're mostly fat. Why are they mostly fat? because breasts are a sexual indicator much like the big red arse is on baboons. Humans walk standing up, so the sexual indicator has evolved to be up front, rather than around the buttocks.

Breasts are dual purpose. For sexual purposes and for child-rearing.

Good point!

Paper on the subject around the fact that larger buttocks and breasts are sexual objects that have been selectively bred for over generations

I think people who find it offensive or uncomfortable are a bit sad, it's a child being fed with the slight possibility or seeing a bit of boob, oh noes! Get over it, you're the weirdo here, not the woman feeding her child.

No one is telling you to look though.... It's people like you and those who cant help but look that are the cause of this issue.

I hate that Keeping up with the Kardashians show. So I leave my room whenever my girlfriend decides she wants to watch it.... I dont go around complaining about it!

Look at your food then. You wouldn't normally go out for dinner and spend your time staring creepily at women around the restaurant, so why do it if they're breastfeeding?

Because he cant help but look... Clearly has very little self control!

To quote Stephen Fry:-

“It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so ******* what."

So when you go to a restaurant you never look at anything but your plate? hmmmm....

You forget there are a lot of quasi/faux-alpha males on this forum (i.e. people that haven't grown up yet) who feel it is their duty to share their knuckle dragging opinions on something incredibly innocuous and making ridiculous strawman arguments to prove a point that isn't or doesn't need to be proven.

Of course you're entirely correct - but this wouldn't be a discussion forum if it weren't for gem postings like "it makes me physically sick seeing a mother breastfeeding her child" ;)

I do think you're totally right, but there are ridiculous arguments both for and against, I think people should be respectful both ways I don't think there is a 'right' or 'wrong' black and white answer

ooh GD topic: So woofters will not be aroused, they will flail their arms in an octopus rage. Ladies of a wet rivery persuasion could possibly lactate in mutual admiration and google sperm banks. Pensioners won't care, they can't see and cannot afford to eat in restaurants., we are told by the media they're all poor and sucking the taxes of the young. Toff's, snobs and members of GD who want £1k plus coffee machines or £2k jackets :-D will get erections and hope mumma says bitty time!

When you grow up, you'll undoubtedly learn a few basic principles in life, one of which is manners, but others which may lead you to not stare, and go back to enjoying the company of the person with whom you are dining, rather than unnecessarily taking offence for something which shouldn't affect your dining experience.

Really, was that my point? No, I don't stare at my plate the whole time I'm in a restaurant. Of course. Nor do I look around for other patrons doing something that might upset me, then stare at them in order to make myself feel angry and offended. It's not hard to notice that there's something going on you don't want to look at, and then look away.

Absolutely - there is no black and white.

And each extreme example is just as silly as the other. As I sated several posts before, most people are discreet when feeding their child, and most people are mature enough not to stare, so for 99.9% of times it really should be a non issue. Unlike adults who know how to control one's desires, if a child is hungry it will cry, which is far more unpleasant in a dining environment than perhaps seeing a mother try and feed her child.
