Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Ha! We have exactly the same setup now Lisapete. The screen mount turned up this morning and it's ace. The 5 other ones I have that I keep switching between because I hate them all are going straight in the bin. This one's a keeper.

The antenna setup you have is the one I arrived at after messing with all sorts of different types.

I have too thank you and Flukester as its all your posts
and direct advice here that's helped me get to this point. As well some good deals I've been able too get. Glad you like the mount, more so it's made you want too ditch the others. Sells it more too me as you and Fluke seam a little more active and pro here than others. No offence too them.

I got to take my 250 in the back garden today and had a hover about with it, intimidating is a word that springs to mind.
I couldn't really get any meaningful insight into its stability as the wind was horrendous, needless to say it was a epic feeling seeing it take off and stay up too :D

I think i will invest in a mobious, I didn't really have any intention too at first but it looks to be the only thing along with the fpv gear when I get it that will counter balance the battery at the back. For now the lipo is strapped to the upper deck.

Next month I may invest in the fpv gear but
I'm not 100% sure yet as it will be a while before I'm comfortable flying line of sight let alone fpv.

The DR8II-Plus is huge really and will have to be changed before it can accommodate any more equipment but on the whole I am quite chuffed with the end result.

Build is

Luminier QAV250 CF
EMAX 2204 2300KV Motors
Afro slim 12a ESC
Naze32 Acro AbuseMark FunFly FC
D8RII-PLUS rx
turnigy 9xr pro tx

Telemetry and alarms all all set up and the mode switches for the buzzer and flight modes, arm/disarm are all assigned with audible alerts along with voltage thresholds.

Just need some decent weather or at least less wind to get her out in a field and get a bit braver!

PID tuning, is it anything i need to worry about in the immediate future?

Been busy tonight, converted my 9x radio to run off a LiPo. Not much of a conversion just a case or swapping some connectors to the LiPo

Also fitted the Naze32 and got Baseflight installed. Everything seems in order so quick test flight in the garden tomorrow morning and all being well I can go for a blast over the weekend

The Flite Test guys are great!

For the electricians out there, am I able to splice together a couple of balance leads the other way round to usual, so that instead of connecting 2 batteries to a charger, it instead allows me to connect 2 balance lead accessories to a single battery (FPV and a lipo alarm)?

I'm drunk and I still managed to solder on two new motors to my X4!

I got the wrong props but figured it out after holding it in between two fingers and hitting the throttle and going, "why is it trying to flip?".

X4 - more fun and more educational than a Phantom 2.

D'oh.

Yep, I did exactly that last weekend to run my lights and fpv tx

Cool. I've seen a few people making their own, but there doesn't seem to be any for sale anywhere so I wondered if it was because it was a bad idea.

Ill grab some heat shrink and chop up a couple of my balance extension leads.

I have owned my Blade 350qx for a year now and still love it to bits, I have just made probably the last mod I intend to make... chucking away the styrofoam shell of my Quanum FPV Goggles and attaching the screen to my DX5e (Might up grade the TX soon). Need to tidy up the Rats Nest underneath. Thanks go to J1nxy for letting me borrow his upgrade cable so I could upgrade to V2 software and get AP mode :)

It should fly pretty well on the stock pid settings. Especially if you're just learning to fly. Tuning the pid loops and fiddling with the rates will make it more responsive, roll and flip quicker but it will also make it feel less stable. One thing I would do though is increase the yaw rate to .4 or .5 as the naze tends to yaw quite slowly.

Just got back from the first proper maiden and man it was fun, you are correct though it flew lovely and a lot easier than i expected once in a nice open space with no fear of clattering in to something. you are also spot on with the yaw rate being slow but i actually found it ok for wide open space and could still bank turn pretty tightly or at least what i perceive as tightly.

I have to say I am hooked and can not wait for the nice weather to arrive, i was pleasantly surprised with the flight time also, I suspect my flying was tame but i did not land once, got some decent speed and had a good mix of fast straight line flying and sharp banking and the Freshly charged nano-tech 1300mah 45-90c battery gave me a 9 minute 56 second flight before the tx sounded the low voltage alarm at 9.6v; Of course this was with the bare minimum on the frame: esc's, FC and RX + battery. 437g totel with lipo, 340 without.

I do need to venture further though as the closest open land we have will always be littered with dog walkers and today I found out just how much dogs want to eat or play catch with little quadcopters :D it was quite amusing and the lady walking the dog found it quite amusing just how obsessed her little pooch was, took her at least ten minutes to get him on his leash.

I did notice something strange when i went to swap out the first battery, I disarmed the quad then turned off the TX and then disconnected the battery but upon hooking up the new battery and switching on the receiver it wouldn't arm again, all that happened when i armed the quadcopter was the arm light on the naze32 would just blink. In the end i had to disconnect everything and wait for a few minutes before hooking it all up again, it was fine after that.
Any ideas on this?

Good work. Glad you're enjoying it! Just under ten minutes is pretty good.... I get about 6 or 7 if I'm flying hard. 1500mah battery and about 540g auw.

The naze flashing thing might be the gyros. If the quad isn't still whilst you connect the battery and it goes through it's boot up gyro calibration or if the quad isn't level enough, it won't let you arm it.

So.. I just slipped and ordered a few small bits from Hobby King...

Not much, just some battery straps, a lipo alarm, some vibration mounts and some balance extenders... and a Fat Shark Predator RTP FPV Kit and CP antennas :D

The Aeroxcraft landing gear set is £50 at the moment - 24% off - tempting as the plastic ones I've been using are just annoying and something more sturdy would be good but the weight is my only concern!

Where are people buying the Taranis mode two and xr8 combo? Hobbyking or somewhere? Can't see !Amy shops on the bay

Mode 1/Mode 2 Taranis makes little difference.

Swapping between modes is a 5 minute job and requires nothing more than a philips/pozi screwdriver.
