Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

No I've configured the esc and the layout of motors this sets up the offsets of any interference when the motors are running for the apm board

It's when the quad or hex is clamped to the bench whilst the plugged in the computer and the motors are run on 50% I'm posting on my phone at moment but when kids go bed ill post a link to the video off the laptop

I haven't done the auto trim I'm going need some more leads for the extra channels thanks for the tip tho
Ah right got you, compassmot :-)

cheers for that fella sorry didn't get round to posting that link I went bed early last night that is the calibration test

My dad is using same board and after a bit of digging the terminal now doesn't work with the newest firmware something to do with the apm board does not have enough memory

The more I find out about these boards the more I realise these things will spend more time plugged in a computer than in the air

Bit confused about the lack of stock/places to buy the FrSky Taranis in the UK :/ guess there isnt many dealers?

As someone mentioned,

http://robotbirds.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=85_438_585

with the actual product link

http://robotbirds.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=85_438_585&products_id=8137

is this the cheapest I am likely to get it?

I cant see it listed anywhere in the UK really, Hobbyking do but I dont think they are Uk based?

Seems odd that for a popular tx/rx there are not many places selling them

I've not heard of the Phantom having GPS no fly zones built in?

It certainly didn't prevent the few instances of people flying them over airports in the UK.

I didn't upgrade mine when they introduced that feature, mostly because I was concerned at it being an extra complication that might make things go wrong!

I tend to fly in ATTI mode anyhow, don't think the ringfencing works then?

The problem is that it's so incredibly popular that FrSky can't make them fast enough. Everyone is moving to this radio even some die hard Futaba fans.

I would buy from http://www.t9hobbysport.com/frsky-taranis-plus-2.4ghz-transmitter but even they don't have it in stock at the moment. Give them a call though as they're usually pretty clued up as to when they are getting them in and how long the wait will be. They are the official reseller for the Taranis in the UK so seem to get preferential shipments.

Was hoping to order to have it before the weekend going to try Robotbirds as they seem to be in stock, and a little cheaper, but will keep the above website in mind.

Ta :)

Going to order XD9 and XR8, £180 should be here tomorrow.

They did a combo but not listing it anymore, so had to buy the Tx and Rx seperatly, not much difference off the T9Hobbysport

I cant find it anywhere cheaper.

They only need to be plugged in when you want to change anything. Once you've done the initial calibration you don't need to plug it in again.

I certainly haven't plugged mine in for months approaching a year, it flies great in manual and self-level. If it's not broken don't fix it :)

Guys

Looking for advice, total newbie when it comes to multi.

If I had a budget of up to £500, what would you recommend. Hopefully with some form of hd camera on it. Don't mind building from kit if it means I could get more for my money.

Thanks

What flying do you intend to do with it?

There are so many options it's best to determine what flying you enjoy and what you want to do with it.

  • A 250 quad with a Mobius or GoPro that's fast and fun.
  • A multi-Purpose 450 quad that can easily carry a GoPro and gimbal which is reasonably agile but also quite stable.
  • A large diameter quad/hex that is stable but the least agile.
  • A tricopter which is similar in capability to a 450 quad but flies much smoother and swoops like a plane in some ways.

Do you plan to learn to fly it properly or do you have no interest in that are happy to let the flight controller hold the multirotor in GPS mode and you just move it around the sky?

edit: Sorry keep on thinking of more questions ;)
Do you have any RC experience or equipment already?

If you add a bit more, a Phantom Vision is about £650. They are being discontinued soon but you should still be able to get one if you look around.

Does any one have a opinion on the skyzone V.2 FPV goggles? looking at the fpv gear and these goggles seem to have a great spec sheet but solid reviews seem a tad hard to find.

would i be limiting my self iin regards of quality when it comes to the video transmitter on the quad and does the fact i wear glasses for close work have any impact on my choice?

Ok so I may have made a minor blunder, any of you experienced quad/multi rotor guys give me a heads up..

Soo..I've been looking at getting a multirotor for a while now, and with receiving a GoPro Hero 4 (Black) for xmas I thought right time to get one and see what was about that would suit. After many hours of faffing on different models I settled on a DJI Phantom 2. Ordered it today so should be here tomorrow. Thing is.. It comes with a Zenmuse H3-3D. I've just been on the DJI website and see that they announced the new H4-3D for the GoPro Hero 4. I've immediately got that sinking feeling :o

Basically have any of you got the Hero 4 with the H3-3D gimbal? If so am I going to have headaches?

I have a Hero 4 Black and am using it fine in an H3-3D - yes the options key on the side does touch the frame of the gimbal a bit but it's not been an issue thus far when I've had it up in the air on my F550.

No need to go for an H4-3D unless it's the same price as an H3-3D but even then I can't see the reason to bother really - unless there's something I'm missing that makes it better for use with the Hero 4?

Just been doing some night flying with my Hubsan X4. Its been really fun doing it while it's snowing. Night flying makes it much easier to figure out the orientation.

Just pre-ordered one of these, should help make a very tidy build.

Had a good evening yesterday at Creative England Live. Met lots of interesting people and hopefully something will come of it!

These are all from the start as things were pretty busy from the on, a good 300 people. Had a good chat with Harvey Goldsmith as well which was interesting whether anything comes of it or not!

We were pretty worried when we were opposite some priceless props from Harry Potter when we were flying the Hubsan X4s around :p
