Asus G751JY ROG Gaming laptop IPS display

I just tried the drivers to see what would happen.

Once installed I got a popup telling me a G-Sync display had been found and the V-Sync option in control panel is set to G-Sync. I set the screen to 100Hz in control panel as well.

All I can say is it makes a huge difference. I have tried Dying light, Mordor and Crysis 3 and they are now perfectly smooth even when the fps drops. It feels too smooth tbh.

Tbh I have no idea if G-sync is working or not but it makes a very noticeable difference if you turn it off.

Not sure I will leave it at 100Hz 24/7 but for a quick game now and then I'm sure it will be fine...

Choosing between the g751 and gt72, just wondering when not playing games(just web browsing and office work) is gt72 very quiet same as g751?

I love how MOOG has progressed from "Im not risking anything, no no no" to trying untested drivers and pushing the refresh rate boundaries. Good man. :D

GT72 is quiter when browsing and general use. The G751 is considerably quieter when gaming or under load.

Going outside my comfort zone. :)

The G-Sync thing works so well it would be hard to go back now tbh....

That is identical to the one I'm getting.
I was surprised I can get away with it with the red fans, rog badge and red wasd keys
Bit of a shame I can't use it for games

If you are not gaming the G751 is a bit of a bulky beast tbh. I would be looking elsewhere if not gaming as the 751 is very geared to gaming.

You could get similar CPU performance in a slimmer frame ?

Not gaming on a G751 is like buying a Ferrari for the school run.. :)

I picked it for cooling. IPS, quiet while at full load.
Anything ultra book isn't gonna cut it
A desktop I can't use at home
Anything like hp z book is stupidly over priced

Need 16gb+ ram
And biggest cpu possible really.

I would have gone for a 15" MacBook pro tbh. Fast i7 CPU, 16gb ram, stunning retina ips screen and dual bootable with windows 8. Nice and light and well built for every day use.

You can get a refurb with 950gt GPU for £1599 which from Apple may as well mean new in a different box.

I'm not sure I would want to move a G751 around to much tbh... It's a heavy lump with huge PSU and not the most solid of builds.

Very kind offer. Will get back to you.

Not sure if you have already but its worth trying the gsync pendulum demo - i used in on my rog swift to really see the difference. I couldnt find it on the nvidia site but got it from here

i very much doubt it would have been able to cool its cpu? Plus i dunno if work would have gone with that option.

i dont mind the weight, ill mainly be going car to office and im used to kilos of camera equipment

This thing is brilliant, and so quiet. Ok it's about 10% down in the couple of benchmarks I have done on a high end desktop, but very impressed.

Oh and it's massive!

ok about 8 hours in and i must say this is a brilliant laptop. I have taken the precuation of buying a separate keyboard and mouse to avoid wear and tear (i've seen the problems) when possible. The sound is ok but not great even with yesterdays updated driver but yet to try a usb headset which i would hope to be as good as on the pc's. Had ropey network performance until i removed the 2 asus gaming apps as discussed on the asus forum and now it is full speed. As someone said before, the most impressive thing has to be the noise - it is quieter than a quiet-tuned pc even when gaming for an hour or benchmarking. Holidays will never be the same! by that i think they will be more like home

R.I.P my G751........:(

Fired it up this morning to play dying light and windows was running really slow. Opening items was taking ages. Did a restart and all seemed ok until I tried to run a game. The screen flashed black the fans went insane and the speakers beeped lots. Tried another re-start but now getting the check board pattern again as I posted above.

The laptop was running everything at stock settings.

It's being collected and refunded. I will work out if I replace it with another at some point but for now all I have is my trusty iPad.....

Stupid laptop...:(
