Project GODUS kick starter - Peter Molyneux

IAP, yuck.

This just goes from bad to worst. Cue 3 months of silence from 22Cans, a dev video explaining how they're going to address the issues, then probably nothing.

Such high hopes for this game, just dwindling.

This game looked like it could be good, but I would be pretty annoyed if I had backed it and saw this:

Godus is out now for free on iOS

They always stated they were going to do a mobile version, sadly I don't think we expected the PC version to be influenced by the way most mobile games sadly have to work these days.

Having said that, the latest version does seem quite a lot better, its finally starting to feel like more of a game.

Molyneux, lmao anybody who backed that should have known better and as for the game itself, having played the mobile version all I can say is yawn, we've been here before, several times...

Wow, that's everything wrong with kickstarting games right there from someone who should know better.

Arrogant.

To be honest I'm a little annoyed with myself for backing it but he is like a childhood hero, met him a few times and, well, I always trust him for some reason.

Wow, does Kickstarter not have some sort of protection against these kind of things?

Cause its suppose to be a risk, its like backing something to get extras or that little but cheaper... backing a kickstarter you should realise the risk that your taking, if you are not happy with that risk then you really shouldnt back the project.

Just re-read the article, so they've stopped replying to mails and closed off their forum.

Steam discussion is still going here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/232810/discussions/0/612823460273196949/ although that has been incredibly negative from the start. Not without good cause it would seem now.

I had high hopes for this game, particularly with a man like PM on the team. The dev videos showed promise, but one thing always nagged me. There was one video where a dev looked utterly disenfranchised, angry almost. It always made me think that the atmosphere at 22Cans wasn't one of contentment, and that it was as difficult place to make progress.

Yup it doesnt bode well at the moment, I think that they are going to stop development soon and release it like it is now... I think that this is them trying a 'soft' get ready for worse to come!

From the minute I played the alpha I could see the direction Godus was heading in and I didn't like it.
So all of the work people had put in up to that point, you sought to change?

It took half a year to develop contact with Peter personally before I was offered a design position (initially unpaid mind you, they weren't looking to fill a opening). Then another year working at 22cans to get to a position where I could get the chance to really influence the direction of Godus. I've had to be persistent, patient and not expect fast changes. Now, how far my influence actually extends despite what I have been told still remains to be seen.
Come hell or high water?

For a while it was looking pretty grim, there was a lot of pressure to just focus on maximizing revenue from mobile.
Quelle suprise.

Edit - This thread seems to be aggregating all the press this is getting:

http://godus.boards.net/thread/743/begun

So the way I'm reading this, Conrad has elbowed his way in to 22Cans as an enthusiastic type hellbent on making the game his own and Molyneux has just said "go on then" and washed his hands of it. Leaving him free to go on to his next spell of dabbling in a concept. Bet Pete couldn't believe his luck! A willing scapegoat landing in his lap, result!

A guy on the above thread posted this:

Most likely. I actually just finished going back through that excuse video and realized that it pretty much confirms the size of the new team. PM mentions in one spot that Konrad and Pavle are within arm's reach if they need help. It's the closest to confirmation that they've pared things down to two guys. The only way they could remove any more resources from the project is if they kicked the "team" out of the office and made them work on the streets. Essentially, it sounds like there's one mobile and one pc developer left.

Claiming dedication to this project has to be the most blatant misrepresentation of reality we've heard from this company. PM also claimed we could email him directly to point out our dissatisfaction. Yet again, we have a bold statement backed by nothing. His personal email isn't public and it appears reporters are getting bounced messages from their accounts. Plus, with all the crap we've heard about his dyslexia, I'm really not sure why he wanted to throw down that gauntlet. In all likelihood, we'd have a better chance of having our messages read if we emailed straight into a spam folder.

Ooo, he mad.

I have just been arguing with 22cans over twitter about this, they have just gone quiet, like they are ignoring me :(

LOL, says the BBC are contacting him for comment.

The Beeb have always given Molyneux air time, so will be interesting to see how this plays out. I won't lie, in PM's shoes now I'd be sweating.

Said the *may* release an official statement.... MAY!

This situation seems fairly similar to when DoubleFine ditched Spacebase DF9, a long silence, devs changing projects and then a quick message to say that's it.

I'd like to say I'm surprised, but when your project is spearheaded by a guy who blurts out random **** in lieu of design it was bound to happen.

Hopefully this takes the last piece of his reputation with it.
