BenQ XL2730Z Freesync Owners Thread

I've been hearing bits and pieces lately from Swift users and ppl with G-Sync seriously considering moving over to adaptive sync side of things.

Problem is if they have nvidia cards they're screwed as they're locked to gsync. Even though the standard AMD is using is open I don't think nvidia will allow their cards to do it as it renders gsync models useless.

Thats interesting to hear, especially seeing as you come directly from the Swift. I've been hearing bits and pieces lately from Swift users and ppl with G-Sync seriously considering moving over to adaptive sync side of things. The screen is incredibly good I can vouch for that. Seeing it at 144hz running BF4 without Freesync is something, so god knows how good it's going to be come the 19th for those lucky people with the right cards. Come on 390X lol, my wallet is ready.

Yeah, if anything I have had the good advantage of both monitors (minus the freesync) so can give a prity good overall opinion. The BenQ just feels the better choice, like I say the features are wicked, you have far more options to connect opposed to the one DP on the ROG and I really like the S arc mithingy on the base :)

Could I have a source please. The spec's page for the montior says 56-144Hz.

Sorry, the lower limit of the operating range is 40Hz on the BenQ. Just had this confirmed with BenQ themselves. I think it was originally going to be 30Hz, but that was changed. I have received further confirmation from another source, but I can't give further details on that yet.

The specifications must be for the static refresh rate that can be enforced, which seems to be different from the dynamic refresh rate range. It's the same for their G-SYNC monitors- 56~144 but they can actually go down to 30Hz dynamically.

@ ScramZ. Such low frame rates (<40fps on games like ArmA 3) still feel terrible regardless of whether a variable refresh rate is used, in my opinion. See some of my G-SYNC reviews where this very title was tested alongside others. A low frame rate is still a low frame rate regardless of what the refresh rate is doing, and the lack of fluidity sort of gets in the way of the experience so much that stuttering or extra latency isn't the key issue.

Very tempted to buy this monitor. However i am in the green camp with 970 and iyama Prolite GB2773HS-GB2 144Hz 27.
I have £800 budget so is it safe to say i would get most benefits out this monitor by also purchasing a 290x ?

@Ayahuasca, I found even as low are 25-35 frames, this monitor still does a good job helping it feel smoother without freesync, maybe just the 144hz.

Not sure I agree with that, 25 frames at this hz might feel smoother than 25 frames on a 60hz monitor but 25 frames is god awful on both :p

Freesync only works down to 30hz on this monitor I believe but I still wouldn't want to be playing games at 30fps.

Agreed. Although FreeSync works down to 40Hz (see above) rather than 30Hz. :)

How many people are using this with a nVidia GPU? Thinking of getting one with my 780 until the 390x comes out.

I have one but there is no option for 144hz in the Nvidia control panel and I'm not going to manually over clock it (because it's brand new) so it's going back and I'll just wait for the G-sync IPS instead.

But basically Benq have upgraded it from the swift, instead of faint black lines on very fast moving things you get white faint lines. I think white lines are better than black lines.
