It was damn cold this morning (or I'm ill) but it's gone sunny and pretty warm now. Hopefully it'll stay that way between 4 and 6 so I can enjoy a long ride home (phrasing).

edit: My PX order turned up too. I best check the tubes I guess

Its an annoying time of year for commuters, freezing cold in the morning and warm and sunny in the evening.

FAO: physichull - I'm not riding with my usual group on Saturday, so I have no fixed agenda for riding up until 12pm when I need to be home. I'm up for riding around Rivington if you fancy tagging along.

Yup OK.

Fancy meeting at that crossroads in Hindley? Then head up through Platt Bridge? Not sure about the way back?

I was looking at the routes. I can either go to the Ribble Valley on the Monday, or to Whaley Bridge on the Friday. I could do both but her indoors would go mental :p

I was thinking about cycling to Leek.

Meeting at 8am on a weekend? You guys are sick.

Hey! I've not agreed to that yet!

Yep. I'll figure a route out and post something up. Can include a cafe stop :D Meet at 8am in Hindley? That work for you?

(That's fine!)

Gonna head out tomorrow afternoon as I haven't been out in a while due to manflu. Shake the rust off!

Eh! Managed to rip my rear wheel out of place when getting off the lights! :) I did tighten the bolts hard enough but drive side managed to slip anyway.. Looks like the actual metal coating gave in and the wheel slipped . brilliant! #singlespeedlife

You should probably stop trying to sexually pleasure traffic lights and concentrate on your riding more.

This is beaut!

Jonny I know you've posted this a million times, but whats your guide to chain lengths please. Swapping my TT bike to the 10 speed at some point in next couple of days.

Chain on the big rings at the front and back without going through the derailleur, pull the chain tight and see where the chain could be joined, add two more links and then break the chain and fit.

Any recommendations for cheaper knee/arm warmers, need some for my commute, but don't really want to be using my castelli nanoflex every day and stretch them to hell. Preferably similar sort of stretchy fabric with an elastic gripper.

Some info here.

I suggested nanoflex previously, so no ideas re the arm warmers! I've used mine fairly regularly through autumn and they don't seem particularly stretched.

Tell me about it! Wore thermal bib-tights with my extra bib-tights over the top with thermal jersey under my jacket with winter gloves and skull cap on the way in...

Then normal (non-thermal) bib-tights with normal jersey under my jacket with full fingered gloves on the way home...

I was carrying/wearing: 3 pairs of bib tights, work trousers, work shirt, 2 jerseys, 3 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of gloves, boxers and my lunch! (+ overshoes, tools, lock and all the usuals)

Thanks!

I keep thinking to get some (currently don't own any) and keep going back to the Sportful NoRain as I could wear them for autumn/winter/spring warmth aswell as rain protection rather than carrying a packable jacket in the summer (and invest in some good windproof jerseys that are semi-water resistant).

Trip to the LBS this evening on my way home - was late leaving work and wanted to get there ASAP to give them plenty of time (spoke to them in the day and they had a guy off sick so couldn't promise they'd have time).

Nailed it there and got a 2nd best on a commute segment (my legs were tired so I can go faster, but not fully loaded like I was!).

The guy had a good look and thinks it's the spokes on my rear wheel not under enough tension, he 'pinged' one while I was there and the noise is very VERY similar to the one I'm hearing! So he went through and tightened most of them (but then ran out of time - other customers coming to pickup their bikes as they were closing at 5:30). He gave it a quick test around the car park and it's still making the noise a little so he also showed me what kind of tension to put on them so I've finished that off tonight.

The ride home from the LBS was good, I felt strong on another short commuting segment and got a 2nd place on it (quite chuffed! Even if it is a segment I've created!) :D

Also picked up a Topeak Combo Torque Wrench for £15, don't mind paying the extra as I was looking at a £30 one (wanted more than just 5 Nm torque which all the other cheap ones seem to only do!). :D

So I've gone and tightened all my spokes tonight (as well as nearly everything else with my new toy! :D), they're all a similar tension but I've had to tweak a couple to rebalance/true my wheels - to the best of my ability (judging them against my brake pads). I'm sure there's better ways of doing it without buying a tru'ing tool? How do you guys judge how much tension to place on them? I've seen the trick about holding a marker against the rim so may do that on the weekend

They're not expensive, just get a second pair ;).
