Its an annoying time of year for commuters, freezing cold in the morning and warm and sunny in the evening.
Tell me about it! Wore thermal bib-tights with my extra bib-tights over the top with thermal jersey under my jacket with winter gloves and skull cap on the way in...
Then normal (non-thermal) bib-tights with normal jersey under my jacket with full fingered gloves on the way home...
I was carrying/wearing: 3 pairs of bib tights, work trousers, work shirt, 2 jerseys, 3 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of gloves, boxers and my lunch! (+ overshoes, tools, lock and all the usuals)
Thanks!
Any recommendations for cheaper knee/arm warmers, need some for my commute, but don't really want to be using my castelli nanoflex every day and stretch them to hell. Preferably similar sort of stretchy fabric with an elastic gripper.
I keep thinking to get some (currently don't own any) and keep going back to the Sportful NoRain as I could wear them for autumn/winter/spring warmth aswell as rain protection rather than carrying a packable jacket in the summer (and invest in some good windproof jerseys that are semi-water resistant).
Trip to the LBS this evening on my way home - was late leaving work and wanted to get there ASAP to give them plenty of time (spoke to them in the day and they had a guy off sick so couldn't promise they'd have time).
Nailed it there and got a 2nd best on a commute segment (my legs were tired so I can go faster, but not fully loaded like I was!).
The guy had a good look and thinks it's the spokes on my rear wheel not under enough tension, he 'pinged' one while I was there and the noise is very VERY similar to the one I'm hearing! So he went through and tightened most of them (but then ran out of time - other customers coming to pickup their bikes as they were closing at 5:30). He gave it a quick test around the car park and it's still making the noise a little so he also showed me what kind of tension to put on them so I've finished that off tonight.
The ride home from the LBS was good,
I felt strong on another short commuting segment and got a 2nd place on it (quite chuffed! Even if it is a segment I've created!)
Also picked up a
Topeak Combo Torque Wrench for £15, don't mind paying the extra as I was looking at a £30 one (wanted more than just 5 Nm torque which all the other cheap ones seem to only do!).
So I've gone and tightened all my spokes tonight (as well as nearly everything else with my new toy!

), they're all a similar tension but I've had to tweak a couple to rebalance/true my wheels - to the best of my ability (judging them against my brake pads). I'm sure there's better ways of doing it without buying a tru'ing tool? How do you guys judge how much tension to place on them? I've seen the trick about holding a marker against the rim so may do that on the weekend
