Insight is really doing my nut in tbh!

I thought i read somewhere you can buy madmans knowledge but can't seem to be able to? I also for some reason didn't pick up the small resonating bell so can't join anyone in co-op, which does my nut in!

You don't pick the resonating bell up, you have to buy it from the insight vendor back at the Hunters Dream

I failed again. I think it's easier if I keep the cleric central in the road but the issue I seemed to have was when I got in close I'd usually get a flurry of blows while I aimlessly dodge around.
If I had Molotovs I may have come close that fight as I got him down about 75%. Interestingly my best attempt was my first.

Each attack has a specific way you'll want to dodge it. He's not an easy fight but I beat him on my first go (lots of souls experience likely helped with telegraphing, but I did use a lot of vials!) so really you need to just learn which attack does what, which attacks run into combo's and know which attacks allow you to dodge towards him rather than away. I think I ended up being able to dodge most of his attacks by rolling towards him thus allowing me to be much closer for a counter attack or even behind him for the entire fight.

Phalanx wasn't it?

For those struggling with Gasgoigne, there is a really obscurely attained item you can get which essentially stuns him for a good 3 or 4 seconds...won't go into it as it's largely lore related

He managed the first, knight is the second. Man I remember seeing that boss (TK) for the first time. Pretty scary!

Yeah i know, i for some reason didn't get it when i had the chance, i got the summoning bell and the silencing bell.

Do you want try share play and let some one else have a crack for you?

I appreciate the offer but despite my postings I'm not actually getting frustrated or downhearted about it :)
This is why I'm a bit annoyed at myself for not playing the others more because I think you need to be chilled to have any chance of doing this game! I'm just running to do the fight over and over, got no vials unless someone drops one in the house but that's ok.

I'm not doing too well at this, but I am sure I will be fine after a couple more hours as it feels pretty much identical to Demons souls to me.

I am really close to the beginning (Central Yharnan). The guy with the hood and the huge axe keeps killing me (but I am going to go back and throw 10 Molotovs at him after some farming)

SO far I can just reach him in 1 direction and a big door with something banging behind it in the other direction. Should I be able to power up or anything yet? I am farming small amounts, and storing some items in the Hunters Dream for now, but I see no way to upgrade my weapons or stats yet (The first upgrade in the workshop requires a load of bloodstones or something that I don't have). I feel if I can upgrade my threaded cane a bit I might get a bit further, quicker :)

That guy with the axe isn't worth your time at this point. Head towards the door with the banging behind it and work your way behind it.

You won't be able to level up until you've at least seen the first boss.

Thanks for the quick reply!! 1 more quick point, I didn't actually try, but do I open the banging door or do I go through that area from the open tunnel to the left of it (looks like it has a cage door that is going to fall down after you pass that point). the one on the opposite side is closed iirc.

You want to go to the left of that banging door and through to the area behind it.

Inside this spoiler within a spoiler (inception?) is a little tip for opening a shortcut
In this area, up top on the left hand side as you walk into it, there are lots of barrels you can break which allow you to drop down to some dogs in cages, go left from here after you drop down and it will allow you to open the gate near the lantern where you started from.

Good luck

after about three hours of trying I finally beat the first boss :) ,so chuffed im considering putting it on my CV.

I know... I was chuffed.. I've just beat the second boss, the mental farther as I found oit. Boy was he bloody tough. I had to dodge and use vials like mad. First attempt was terrible. Second time I got him but it was close.. Just beat him and my hands are sweaty as heck.

This game is bloody brutal. But once you beat the bosses it makes you want to press on to the next one.

Lovely visuals but I so nearly quit on this one. And that's a shame but I guess everyone is right, you just need to learn how to play it..

Oh and the second boss. You do need a certain item to help against him. I nearly forgot to use it. Still a tough fight mind. Harder then the cleric beast.

I never did use an item, does it make much difference? He's long dead now but it may help out in subsequent runs. I never had much problem going toe to toe with him in the first phase but in the second phase I felt like I was trying to hold on for dear life.

It did

its a music box which he doesn't like. You get it from a girl out of a window

I never did find a shortcut to the second boss though. Thankfully the path to him wasn't too bad , the sewer's were a bit deadly in places.. But vials dropped quite a lot which helped no end... Without vials or Molotov I'd have struggled getting to the second boss ..

Did you open the gate to the left of the first lantern? That path takes you to an elevator right at the bridge before you meet the second boss which you just needed to activate from the bottom.

Danm.. I knew I'd missed it. I saw the latch for the elevator and it said not in use. I knew it needed to be unlocked somewhere. And I missed it.

Oh well. Past it now, got into the cathedral type building so guess I don't need the shortcut now.

Not sure I still totally get this game, but I'm glad I didn't quit. Its the respawning , its maybe due to its unforgiving nature I'm not getting and I think I might just be used to hand holding games, this is not a game that holds your hand. And it seems you're punished for taking stupid risks...

It's finding the right amount of risk/reward and fine tuning it for each enemy, first time getting to some bosses was a slug and got dealt with...now it's a breeze, can get through areas without being touched

Sounds like your getting on much better now than a few days back, grats! That item! I had it and was wondering when i needed to use it lol will do it on my next play through

Its a nice feeling downing a boss isnt it!

However if i did it like this guy says is the right way' i wouldnt feel good about myself at all. This wont prepare him for bosses that dont have things to hide behind :D
