(can you tell it's friday?!)

I carry two and have more than 5 at home.

Think I have more than 5 spare tyres at home!

Haha yeah good point, I have 3 'spare' tyres (1 old rubbish one & 2 new Giant P-R3's).

Really wanted to try out the 25mm Continental GP4S but they were never in a good sale, will prob grab them before the autumn/winter (or the Mitchelin Grip in 25mm if they do them before then).

My 'backup' tyre will always be 25mm Mitchelin Pro4E but they're always out of stock, so I'll be grabbing them whenever I can!

My current 23mm P4E's are getting older (~1500 miles). This week I've suffered from a slow puncture/deflation and I think my safest course (before a 30+ mile ride tomorrow morning) is to change them to the 25mm Giant P-R3's which came with my Defy 1 in December (which I took off after a couple of slides in the wet weather). I'm looking forward to the comfort of 25mm as I remember noticing the difference changing back to my old 23mm's (to wear them out!)

Yeah, that's a fair point. I think I'd be happy with a single arm PM as long as I could then use it for training - same as Trainer Road, as you say. I could potentially always add the extra arm at a later date if I really wanted too and at the very least I'd have spread the cost a little.

My main reason for wanting a power meter is so that I can finally learn to gauge my efforts properly on hills.

Plus I work with data for a living and really, really like crunching numbers.

They are a popular tyre! I managed to pick some up last year when I had the opportunity to use a good code on PBK.

I've just checked my PBK account. I purchased two 25mm ones for £55.98. That's £27.99 each. Right now they have them on their site for £44.99 EACH! Jesus!!

Shop ride for tomorrow announced: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7522783
30.8 miles with 1200ft elevation @16/17mph
Looks like a good route, fairly flat so I'll be heading out! :D

It was either gonna be that or an afternoon ride 'to Abergavenny and back' with the guys I rode with earlier in the week, no idea what route they'd take and would expect the pace to have been around 15/16mph. The route would be a minimum of 50 miles and 4000ft elevation so will be something to build slightly towards! ;)

One of the older bike gurus - I want to get my Dad's old road bike up and running, it's 30+ years old, and the inner tube required is 27 x 1 1/8 - any recommendations on a decent enough (and cheap) inner tubes and tyres for that? If easier/need more info let me know and can get it. Only info I have to hand at the moment, but will get the bike out of storage I think and get it going.

I'd buy new tyres if it's 30+ years old ;)

Haha hence asking for tube and tyre recommendations ;)

I do have some spare Specialized inner tubes, that the valve is too short for my current rims, that have a max measurement to 27 x 1 1/8 - may give these a go to get it running... should probably replace the tyres while I'm doing it though!

Those who recommended steephill.tv I'm really not comfortable giving my creditcard details for 'verification' to the services it uses (sportingvideo.tv etc) is there any way around it or something I'm doing wrong?

I just use the YouTube links. Never used anything else.

Did not read properly ;) I'd recommend getting a cheap 700c wheel set! Not many tyres around in that size! Think I did see the tan walled kendas for sale at spa cycles and I remember reading about them being good ages ago! But don't quote me on that haha ;)

That's the bugger with cycling, after a break, you soon loose fitness.

There's guys in my cycle club who only ever do the weekend club rides and don't do any exercise during the week and they still kick my ass up and down the hills! I don't understand it at all!

Got to get an early night tonight for tomorrow or I won't be cycling anywhere!

Asked about Giant Defy 0 in a store and they offered for me to demo the Giant Defy Advanced 0 as they don't have a demo Defy 0 and I wanted a longer test ride. Turns out they actually meant Advanced Pro 0. It's quite a good ride however certainly out of my budget!

you can get conti ultrasports in 27" sizes, as well as a fair few touring-oriented tyres

SJS Cycles is always a good bet for 27" stuff

You can use a 700c tube, get one for a 28-32mm wide tyre.

You might struggle to find 27 x 1 1/8" tyres but you can get 27 x 1 1/4" pretty much anywhere, they even have them in Wilkinsons. Got any pics of the bike?

Finally ripped my old bar tape off ready for new tape and cables, gave the bike a clean up so will finish off tomorrow. Been putting this off for far too long!
