What watch do you wear?

That's the military green

This.

It's annoyingly hard to get a good comparison photo of the two, in person you can easily see the difference but in my photos it's not as obvious. I like the olive (right, on watch) as it's a tad more subtle than the military (left, no watch) which to me, fits the theme I was going for better. However, if I'd only bought the military I'd be more than happy with that and I'll probably alternate between them now and again, especially if/when one gets grubby.

Tudor, or bide my time, and eventually get a Rolex?

keep eyeballing a 2nd hand Tudor - want. But don't want to regret...

If your eventual aim and desire is a Rolex and it is a realistic possibility then save up the extra few months.

It'll work out cheaper.

Unless you want both, then get both.

Am I the only one who thinks (most of) these Rolexes are quite ugly ( imho), the average Emporio Armani 200-400 € watch looks nicer than most of the Rolexes posted here imho.

I'm not a fan of "designer" watches. Much prefer a Rolex, Omega, Tudor....

I did go through a phase of liking a cruddy Armani watch or other make then saw a Submariner in the flesh and was fixated for around 10 years till I dare buy one. I bought a Steinhart Ocean 1 first as a sort of test pilot and that just spurred me on even more to get the proper one.

I havent wore anything other than my Steinhart or Sub since. I replaced all the batterys in the other watches but pulled the pins to stop them as I just dont want to wear them any more.

The 2 I only have time for now ;)

Hodinkee have a new video out looking back at significant Tudors and how things went on from the early days: http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/inside-the-archives-of-the-tudor-watch-company

Would love an old skool Tudor, a 70s chronograph with the orange hand and accents, looks awesome.

As one commenter has said, it does seem the brand has only started to make really excellent and unique designs the past few years and this is a good thing if you think about it, the start of a new generation as opposed to just revisions of the old. These will be the ones featured in look back videos in decades to come.

Perhaps I'd need to see them in the flesh, but the submariner and the Steinhart just look really generic to me, there are loads of watches that look the same or similar to them.

I'm probably to young to appreciate the items, if I wasn't allowed to sell them but forced to use them, no way I'd pick a Rolex over a nice smartwatch, hell, I'd probably even even want a cheap Casio G-Shock over one. Function over form, plus a nice looking LCD beats a classic watch in terms of form imho :).

Rolex is man jewellery, its a status thing, much like any of the higher tier brands and there is nothing wrong with that. Rolex is proably the most recognised and easily accessible of the higher tiers. Whether its social or peer status or simply as part of the hobby. They are also highly competent timepieces.

Functional watches are great and I find I wear my G-Shocks more and more. My daily beater is a Tissot Couturier which looks good enough for most situations but is cheap enough at £255 to be disposable.

I have to say, I don't get smart watches as they seem to be the worst of both worlds esp battery life. I have a smart phone which I carry all the time and a choice of watches.

I am currently eyeing up a Hamilton Jazzmaster or Longines Conquest to replace my Tissot at the mo.

lol - that is so ridiculous. Soooooo ridiculous. Some people have more money than sense.

Granted, I find the idea of expensive watches totally douchey, but it's amusing to see Apple trying to get in on that market.

^ wow. Putting Apple's over priced devices argument to one side, that's an absurd price for a strap. Is it a standard fitting? Or proprietary?

Hey guys.
Got a orient mako, had a nato strap on it which decided to break mid throw at a country fair....

After the watch stopped gliding through the air in a similar way to how bricks fly, it hit the coconut I was aiming at and knocked it off, but this is a apparently illegal attempt.... :mad:

Anyway the damage is:
* Scratched glass
* Slow time keeping.
* chrome surround for day/date indicator has come off.

I have tried finding someone in Swansea that can repair it but they all turn there noses up at automatics, anyone know a decent on-line place which can repair the stupid thing.

Cheers in advance.

PS: I have replaced the nato watch strap with a traditional faded brown leather unit.

It's proprietary. Every link detaches with a press on the inside and then slips onto the watch without any tools.

It's a fantastic piece of engineering. Apparently it takes Apple 9 hours to make each one, hence the price.

I have to say, I don't get smart watches as they seem to be the worst of both worlds esp battery life. I have a smart phone which I carry all the time and a choice of watches.

Battery life on the e-ink ones is fine, mine lasts 10 days with heavy use.

Do you wear your smartphone in the shower ? Swimming pool ? When sleeping ?

You don't wear your smartphone when going down(stairs) for something to eat to the kitchen, or to the toilet at work do you ?

For me, the watch is handy in those situations, it vibrates because I'm being called before I hear my ringtone from phone which is in a different room, I can read whatsapp while driving or without a copper being able to say anything, or on a bike or moped without having to grab phone from pocket, I can do next/last song while showering, I can read a text while in a meeting without coming over as a **** for grabbing my phone all the time. It counts ALL my steps I take during the day, also the ones in house or in office, as I wear the watch at all times.

It's much more practical as you always wear it, unlike a smartphone, which is sometimes left on a desk/room and also otherwise in your pocket which is unhandy when commuting, or kept away from water.

Not sure 10 days use compares to 2+ years from my quartz, as long as my autos remain serviceable and 5+ years from my G-Shocks some of which are solar.

I do tend to have my smart phone or tablet with me most of the time, bar when physically in a shower or pool.

For telling the time, I have a number of choices all of which are waterproof.

Don't get me wrong, smart watches are pretty cool tech but just not for me.

It's really not expensive for a steel strap

I agree but only in terms of the bracelet itself, for what it is and the materials used. An omega bracelet is circa £465.

But beyond that, once the Apple Watch is replaced by a new model with an all new singing and dancing bracelet, the old one will be worthless. The Omega bracelet won't be losing its value. So by that comparison the Apple bracelet is overpriced in typical Apple style.

Apologies for potato quality - these are my two daily drivers. I'm only a fan of watches that 'do something', hence the solar waveceptor and touch watch with compass.

And lastly my scruffy gym/sleep/housework watch, circa £25, also solar!

...really?:confused::confused::confused:

Have you played with one of Apple's link bracelets? Why don't luxury watch manufacturers make it this easy to adjust their metal bands? Is it because they lack the engineering expertise or are they just stuck in their ways?

I got my first non-plastic watch for Christmas, the memorably named 'Casio WVA-M640TD-1AER' , and I'm really happy with it. I like the simple style, and it's got all the practical features I wanted (waterproof, self-powered), plus it picks up the radio time signal which I think is quite cool.

May not be a mechanical work of art like some of the other watches in this thread, but I like it :).
(sorry for the phone pics)
