Fishing - Anybody doing any ?

Going out to Sweden next month to meet the gf's parents (:eek:) - anyone know of any good spots around the Falun area? Ideally just for spinning/feathering, will only have a light travel rod on me. Long-ish shot I know! :p

I prefer to pull a fish up with less play means it has a better chance on being returned and less time to tangle lines from a boat.

yeah but this was my feathering rod, you wont catch a smoothy on mackeral feathers ;)

Looking on google that's inshore, large areas of water.. I went to Karls Krona (south tip if Sweden) - lovely area and considering the large amount of water nearby, I'm assuming there's a large fishing scene..
If you can see the nautical map that would help, alternatively - is there a local charter boat running individuals days? (i.e. public days)

After a month I attended the brother in-law's wedding.. considering she has two brothers and two sisters.. plus kids + lots of relatives.. compared to meeting my parents (just the two) for a pub meal after a couple of weeks as they were in the area.. Just read up on the traditions (drinks etc), some of the language - the mrs is French :) The father-in-law is a course fisherman, although they live on the Dunkerque coast. Just need to sort out the language.. which gives me an idea what I can do in the spare time..
 
Hmm almost a month until the next trip.. problem with job hunting is that you're stuck in the house with 4 walls.. #chompingatthebitalready ...
 
^^ do you not do any beach fishing? the smooth hound should be running very soon in the solent, fish over 20lb are taken from the beach every year on peeler or hardback crabs
anywhere from Portsmouth to Littlehampton will do, with Bracklesham bay and Selsey west beach being the favoured spots

Landlocked here in Surrey - it's pretty much the same distance (read diesel cost and time) to get down for boat or beach, so the normal trip is from 2-10 people depending on schedules. Unfortunately we're all kitted for boat, so getting to fish would have to be pier/breakwater/walls :D We've tried quite a few boats and now avoid the boast we've had bad experiences (i.e. getting messed around) and tend to favour cats due to their speed to get to mark and stability.

I heard on the last trip that they've banned beach at Hayling Island because a kids was injured on a hook (I'm assuming during casting). Langstone harbour had a good mackerel boil the morning we were setting off - the problem is now is in the Bass Nursery protection period for the inner harbour. Next time I'd be tempted to get there an hour early and sit on the pier with some mackerel feathers which I believe is allowed as long as you're not going for bass..
 
im on the Surrey/Berks/Hampshire border area so i must be quite close to you, now the hindhead tunnel has been done on the A3 it only takes ~50mins (southsea/Hayling) - 1hr 10mins (Selsey)
although if your not working the ££ starts mounting up, fuel, bait, odd bits of tackle.
the last 3 years ive booked a caravan down at Bunn leisure on Selsey bill for late june/early july just for smooth hound fishing... 4 night break mon-fri via the sun newspaper for £90* all in :D

* i also go in october, only costs £40 for 4 nights then :)

afaik the ban on fishing at Hayling was just a small section by the sailing club to the far east of the island, i think there have been enough complaints now to make them change their minds a bit,
im pretty sure fishing is now only banned while there are races going on as the boats come very close to the shore as there is a deep channel there.

Guildford here (was Martins Heron), so A3 is easy to get onto :) the variable is the wife :D

Need to sort out some wire + larger hooks for the next trip.. probably need some larger lead weights (I have one 12oz and a few 9/5/3oz) if we're doing wrecking. Will probably make some simple booms with coat hangers for the bottom - I have some french booms but I'd use those for cod lures as they're a little more delicate.

Soo tempted to order the untide rod (the old company just paid my due expenses) but no.. will have to wait.. grrr...
 
Concerned that people loose 12 rigs when they go wrecking.. I think I may have found an answer - DIY speed pirks made from chromed DIY pipe left over from fitting the radiator in the bathroom. Or instead of using an assist hook, create a 5/0 dual rather than a triple hook. As long as it's about the right size and about 300g (~12oz) it should be fine.. it also has the odd advantage of being able to stuff squid/fish that nobody wants to use up the pipe to act as a scent trail. If I want a slimmer shape I can always fold the pipe, or dent it for more effect.

I also have some white, dark and neon green spray paint, chrome effect plastic piping (for copper pipe covers) and varnish sat idle in the garage too..

Will have a bash tomorrow :)
 
you wont lose 12 rigs wrecking if you've got a good skipper, as you approach the wreck he should tell you when and how far to wind up, then to drop back down once your past it,
ive not tried 'at anchor' on a wreck so maybe you could lose tackle if you do, but anchoring at a wreck is more for conger/ling fishing afaik

Well:
a) I have permission to get the uptide rod from the mrs on the proviso that I do a minimum amount of exercise/day (i.e. go for a run).
b) Garden wire makes a great boom/gemini lead anchor. I've made a few that allow you to clip the lead on. The plastic silver covers you get for 15mm radiator pipes are really good - stick them on to the chromed steel to keep the shine..

So only thing I need is a some additional hooks for the larger bait - 6/0 and probably 10/0 with crimps and wire.
 
Bought the uptide rod today and some 10/0 hooks :) should receive it next week or the week after.

I should gets me smaller 6/0 hooks too as these seem to be very flexible in species too but I have some 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0 already so a couple of 4/0 could do at a pinch..
