World domination? I don't actually think they want anything more than to force their religious beliefs onto everyone else. No matter how much they get, they will always demand more.
Given they have their own Ministry Of War, I think they're greater than 2000 strong
IS as a whole yeah, but the number attacking Ramadi aren't that big IIRC they have about 7000 total on that Eastern front.
Why though? And when do we (rest of the world) actually get involved? If they take more and more cities, grow vastly in numbers and continue to threaten Westerners, should we not be protecting ourselves from possible attack?
My worry is, the attack will be from within, over numerous areas and a large scale.
Indeed otherwise you wouldn't see them making all these well planned moves.
No matter who trains these new people they will always run. "Commanders" with little or no experience are handed out ranks like there is no tomorrow.

They appear to be using (more than typical) tactics, etc. from what was the long range (desert) patrol, some of the IS commanders seem well versed in both theory and practical application of it - which makes their light but faster forces a serious menace to the heavier, less manoeuvrable army forces - does mean they can't really hard siege Baghdad but it looks like they could in effect blockaded it and things would fracture pretty fast.
They're just carrying on their previous goal... Ba'ath party was/is a transnational party with the goal of uniting the Arab world - if it wasn't for GW1 we could easily have seen Saddam continue into Saudi Arabia after invading Kuwait.
Granted they've adopted the whole Islamist thing(whether they agree with it or are just using it) and aren't exactly in line with the Ba'ath party ruling Syria... though I do wonder if some of the Syrian Ba'ath party members have switched to ISIS/are assistant them

To fulfil their prophecy of a huge end battle vs the Roman oppressors (us) that will be the battle to end all battles and the victor to take the spoils. In their prophecy it is written that they are the victors of course.
The iraqi army that fought in both gulf wars was a mix of shi ite and sunni low grade conscripts, only the supposed elite republican guard units were drawn from supporters of saddams regime. And tbh in a conventional fight, they werent up to much either. Many of them may have went on to join the various factions that took part in the insurgency, groups that is was formed out of.
and could you wipe out Louisiana with 2 nukes?
Well placed devices would ruin a lot, but that would be "obscene".

If we knew Saddam was planning that, we should have backed him, not attacked him!
America (had)has too many assets in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

I'd be more concerned if they conquered all the territory they claim for their caliphate - basically anywhere that has been "muslim lands" at some point in history, in other words most of central Europe and Spain.
