How much did it cost you get married?

15k for the wedding. Plus another 5k ish for the Honeymoon. We paid for all of the alcohol and a live band out of that 15k so you can see where the money went.

Yes it was expensive and yes it was more than either of us wanted to pay. Looking back at it now 7 months later I wouldn't change a thing. Best day of my life easily.

We're still getting people telling us now it's the best wedding they've ever been to :)

Dress was 4k for a start.

I MEAN WHY???

That's a horrendous waste of money for a dress shes only going to wear once. My fiancee picked up a dress last time she went to China and had it altered while there and it cost all of £50, her high heel white shoes to go with it actually cost her more at £70! (and we're talking about high quaility wedding style heels that would cost her hundreds here) When he brought it back and modeled it for the rest of the family everybody thought it cost her over £2k

With 4K that's a first class honeymoon anywhere in the world

We're getting married in December, in New Zealand where my partner is from, so far we've paid for the venue fee and booked the flights, my partners' sisters partner is a photography so she's doing the photos which will save us a bit. Then we're off to Sydney and Dubai as part of a honeymoon on the way home. I recon all in we'll spend about £10k and that's over estimating. (i guess it depends on the dress my partner chooses :o)

Some of these costs are absolutely horrific. Me and the future-Mrs have already agreed on a small ceremony with just parents and a couple of witnesses. I expect one of the most expensive parts will be the flight costs of getting her parents and brother from Bulgaria and Norway to the event.

Got married about six months ago in Hertfordshire and I still have the spreadsheet in Google Docs.

For everything (venue hire, dress, rings, meal out for everyone the night before, rooms for family + other important people, photographer, DJ, etc.), it cost us £33,000 - which was way over our budget! Biggest expense was the venue (Ashridge House), which came to about £16,000 including champagne and food. Next was the dress and then the photographer.

Glad we did it despite the cost and the amount of organising involved. Having said that, you'll have a great day no matter what your budget is. It's ultimately about your future wife/husband and the people you share the day with.

I'd imagine flights to China would add to the cost somewhat. For most of us.

Probably for the same reason one of my colleagues at work will happily spend £500 on a handbag.

I don't personally understand it and I know my wife would never spend that on a dress even if we had the money, but everyone is different. Some people may well be just as baffled by the amount of money I have spent on my PC and see it as a waste.

To each their own :)

Cost us nothing. We did have a massive wedding planned, but we had an unplanned event. Her mum and dad canceled every thing and we got married 6 months after the birth. My mum and dad paid for a registry wedding and a garden party at their house. My sister who lived in Cornwall at the time, allowed us to stay at her house in the summer while they were away. That was our honey moon.

Been married 18 years so far and had 3 more kids. would have been nice having the big wedding but to us it doesn't matter, its who you marry that matters.

Good luck and enjoy your day, make as many memories as you can!!

She was over there anyway but Using google translate plug-in chrome you can buy the same dress online and get it sent to the UK. In fact we were going to go down that route but seeing she was going anyway she decided to go look for herself and make sure they were good, to everyone surprised it was! Sure the material isn't going to be the same, but unless you touch it and have a good feel it looks just as good.
