The Jon killing the walker with his sword (Longclaw) was a surprise, don't think it's been mentioned that Valyrian steel will kill a walker. Up to now it's only been dragon glass, walkers were as surprised as Jon. Cracking episode all round.

There's lots of them in the world - you just haven't seen them all mentioned specifically. They're rare but not to the point where only three exist.
Not that I know of but I know they've mentioned Sam's dad, is it Randall something like that, has one and that the bloke who attacked Bran and cut Bran's mum's hand his dagger was made of it - I think they said Littlefinger gave it to him but I am pretty sure that wasn't the case.

Valyrian steel was manufactured with dragonfire.
When reading the night's watch's library/documents, Sam learns about dragonsteel, which they think might have been Valyrian steel. It could be the same thing, it could just be the dragon link.
I love the fact that dragons are clearly the link to defeating winter lot. Both dragon glass and steel for the walkers and also fire to burn wights... Daenerys holds the key.

Needle wasn't it was castle forged steel, not Valyrian steel, thee are others, the dagger that was meant to kill Bran was such a material.
They are rare in the world. So rare that Lannsiter's never had one within their house, and now have two, but potentially the Starks having Ice was due to the historical necessity of such a device close to the walkers.

Technically, they had one (Brightroar), but Tommen II Lannister (King of the Rock long before Aegon The First, Rhaenys and Visenya Targaryen conquered Westeros) lost it for the house when he sailed back to Valyria and never returned.
