Smokers

Do people only start smoking from a young age e.g at the school gates, or do some people take up smoking later in life e.g in their 30s, 40s, etc?

Generally, I find that a lot of smokers I have known have all started in school, wanting to blend in with the 'cool kids' :p

However, some just started due to going out on nights out kind of thing.

I have never smoked anything, so cannot comment, as I wasn't a cool kid. :( :p

Many old people see out the last decade of there life in a care home with little to no sanity. ;) which would you choose
Right, because as a smoker you're going to be fit and healthy right up until you drop dead from lung cancer? Smokers will still suffer through old age like the rest of us, they'll just be hacking up their guts from 45yrs+ and suffering 10 times worse.

I hate smokers. I think you have to be really weak-willed and stupid to start. I just can't understand it. There's so many little things that annoy me about it. Getting stuck behind someone smoking whilst walking down the street, eurgh.

Our downstairs neighbours (non-smokers) had a friend round last night and he decided to have a fag out in the garden. Problem is our bedroom overlooks their garden. We'd left our windows open as you do when it's warm.. go round to the bedroom at 10pm at night and the place absolutely stunk like a bonfire. Not what you want to sleep in. Smoking is just so inconsiderate, everywhere and in every scenario.

10 years is a rough average, someone people will not lose any, others will lose as much as 30 or 40 years. Furthermore, as the poster above said, smoking kills slowly so one should consider quite a few years of suffering before the premature death.

It's bloody awful,

It's also wrecked eating outside, since the indoor ban most smokers tend to eat outside at restaurants now which means you get endless clouds of benson & hedges going with your food, I ****** can't stand it..

I'm not sure about the weak willed part though, a chemical addiction like nicotine must be an absolute nightmare to try and crack, I do sympathise in many ways - how people can be trapped into using a highly damaging, dangerous and insanely expensive product, that you can't stop using.. I can't imagine how awful it must be to want to quit, and not be able to.

I hate judgemental non smokers.

Guess what folks, wanna know the most addictive widespread drug that ever hit us?

*DRUM ROLL*

Processed sugar! And I bet almost every one of you is addicted to it, and don't realize the damage its done to you.

Just google 'sugar most dangerous drug' and see for yourself.

I have recently started again since breaking up from my wife. Only on 5-6 a day (if that) and looking to kick it again. I stopped for about 8 years the first time.

Tough. When your stupid addiction impacts my day, and even my health, then I'll judge you all I want thanksverymuch.

As for processed sugar, I don't drink any sugary drinks (never liked fizzy), don't have sugar in my tea/coffee, don't eat ready meals, rarely eat sweets and chocolate... but good try. I'm sure it's present but at the end of the day (and before you jump on the tea/coffee thing) those 'addictions' don't impact everyone else. Whereas smoking demonstrably does. Even if it is just the stench.

On another note, if I do have to overtake a filthy smoker whilst walking I always do my best to squeeze out a good-one in my wake for them to walk through. Not that they'd smell it of course.

I don't hear you complaining about all the benzene you're inhaling while walking down that Street. You're getting more carcinogens from the traffic than the guy smoking the cigarette.

Nonetheless, I agree that smoking sucks, and I urge anyone to support vaping as an alternative that causes far less harm and isn't smelly like the cigs are

I could see your point previously, now you just sound like a child.

Seriously, who farts in front of someone in protest?

Been vaping for around 3 years now, most of my smoker friends have all converted too. It won't be long before everyone is vaping instead. Then they'll regulate and tax it no doubt, which is when I'll give up for good.

And I assume you don't drive a car, use anything manufactured through pollutant processes, avoid electricity like the plague and especially avoid wearing that god-awful choking perfume that department shops spread all over their counters by the front door...?

News for you - EVERYONE at some point does something that adversely impacts others' days and others' health, mostly through conscious decision, as well.
You complain about my smoking - I'm sure that microwave meal you're stuffing up the office with is reaching far more people...

But hey, if my smoking bothers you that much, I can always just crack open a sewer for you and let you enjoy the rich aroma of hydrogen sulphide instead...? :p
