It's a 530i.

I've ordered the new Skoda Superb Estate (2.0d :-/ ) on a reasonable lease deal. I've a lot on the go at the moment so need something which is minimal-hassle for the next year or two.

Very nice. If only it was a 530d I'd have been trusting you, lol.

Fair enough, totally understand where you're coming from. Hope it serves you well! I'd be interested in some pics, etc when you get it.
 
Decided to fold and buy myself an E46 M3 after trying to convince myself it was a bad idea for the past few months.
What finally tipped the balance was the E30 taking a long stay with a specialist, a serious misfire problem that my usual mechanic had to throw the towel in over (after I'd thrown mine in). Shes running great again now, but unfortunately in the custody of new owner/s after I realised keeping it was mad having bought this. She will be just used as a fair weather weekend and show car which I think is the life the car was asking for rather than a year round daily. Gutted, but I feel it was the right decision and couldn't have gone to nicer more genuine chaps.
For the time being I'm enjoying M3 ownership which is proving to be a real healer.
Its Imola Red inside and out, which turns out to be nowhere near as ghastly as it sounds. A 2003 pre-facelift on 18s with all the old toys apart from HK audio, 86k on the clock and with full service history, plus amazingly thorough documentation (showing that theoretically it shouldn't need anything for the next 12 months) which gave me a bit of confidence.

The E39 530d Auto Touring is the most pointless diesel ever - it'll average low 30's at the best even on a longer commute such as that you have in mind. It is not an efficient car. A 10+ year old one is a completely pointless buy, IMHO.

Once you add in the complexity of the M57 versus the simplicity of the M54 it's hard to make a case for an E39 530d auto irrespective of anyones intended use. If a 530i wouldn't be appropriate - and I can imagine why it wouldn't be - a 530d won't be either.
 
I could quite believe you there. I do remember thinking exactly that at the time.

I need a car for slapping 20k of pure motorway use on per year. And couldn't bring myself to put that miles on a petrol.

To be honest, I'm looking more towards Mondeos and Passats with my current budget, but a 5 series would be a nice motor to do it in.

Thanks, you don't see many E46 M3s in Imola Red. I have no idea why though because in my opinion is looks great! Makes a nice change from the black, silver or somewhere in between colours the majority of them are. Very pleased with it.

Looks like a very clean example. Am a big fan of the stock 18s on the E46 M3, add Imola into the mix too and you've got a very classy example of a brilliant car. Enjoy :)
 
Yeah it certainly seems very well looked after. I didn't think I was going to like the 18s but the more I look at them the more they grow on me, apparently they're a better ride too.

Probably cause it stands out glaringly and not in a good way IMO.
