Same, the only time the compressor isn't noticeably kicking in is in deepest coldest winter

Agree with the above, be surprised if you can't get a good used one for about £50 or less

7SBU16C is a generic compressor.

It's quite rare for the compressor to leak. I'd get a used one. Loads of them on ebay.

Confirmed what i thought then, i even found one for as low as about £20, there is a massive parts supply glut for this era of BMW now. I found that with my last 330i the parts were awesomely cheap - it was the labour and the time to fit them that was the pain with it.

Infact, it's so rare for that denso compressor to leak on the casing I bet the Indy hasn't checked properly. Usually when you do repairs that involve removing the compressor, you remove the gas and then when you undo the lines going into the compressor the dye leaks out and goes over the compressor before you've had a chance to plug them.

I bet they have thought this is a leak when it's just old dye from the lines.

I bet it's your condenser not the compressor.

Hmm interesting thanks, they said they cleaned it up before doing the job so I'm confident they did do it properly. Even said they saw the dye leaking from the compressor.

Edit*
Double checked with them, the condenser has zero issues.

I shall get that used compressor then!

I honestly didn't think these parts were that cheap. Usually when reading around you hear people go "I hope it's not the compressor" and the like and you have images of £lollll.

Compressor and receiver drier ordered. From £1030 to less than £60. Bargain :D

It's BMW Sheffield. £400 a panel? Most likely that quote is to get rid of you as they don't want to work on your car or want to deal with you.

The Sheffield branch carries out SMART repairs.

As I've said, that's based on similar quotes across three different BMW dealers/franchises in this area. I guess I've offended all the local BMW bodyshops by asking for a quote.

Ah yes, have had that mod on mine since a week after owning it. It does make a reasonable difference to noise especially on a cold start. Mine drones a small amount at ~1500rpm but I am rarely driving at that rpm anyway.

Exhaust upgrades are now the least of my worries. Had new front tyres and an alignment done, turns out my driverside front tie rod is siezed. Now the steering wheel vibrates quite badly above 65mph. Need to get it booked in to a specialist quickly.

I undid the golf tee mod on my 335i, made it way too loud! Must be getting old :(

Nice appears to be in good condition, any work needed?

Depends how far I want to take it really, mechanically all seems well with exception of a slight rattle at the front end. The engine still pulls strongly!

There are some rust spots in the most common places which will definitely be addressed at some point and some lacquer peel on the spoiler to rectify.

Most importantly I'm just going to enjoy it!

Guy at work has scrapped my car, owned up to it which is all good. Worth sourcing a new bumper or get it fixed? Cost estimate?

I'll get some better pictures later.
