RIP MSI GTX 970

Hope you guys get everything sorted as quickly as possible. At least it seems Corsair move quite fast when it comes to trying to rectify issues when they occur. Here's hoping they won't quibble over the damage or value of the damaged parts.

When I got my H100i a couple of years ago the concensus was they were extremely reliable but I'm starting to regret my decision now. Looked at the Noctua air coolers but there's no way my RAM would fit under them.

In the review he seems to get some decent size ram under it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swijjjpVR0s its ugly as hell if you like looking in the window but much more quiet and "reliable" having a leak is major pain as im finding out. I might not be without my pc for the next 3-4 weeks, Im probably the 1% that has a leak but yeah

Well my components have been sent away and arrived yesterday in the USA to corsairs damage team, so just waiting on an initial reply. The parts took around 12 days to get from the UK to California. Im kind of worried as I was reading a huge thread from 2012 where they were only offering $100-$150 for peoples damaged graphic cards, and my 780ti cost me £505 a year and a half ago. Im hoping to at least get a performance based compensation amount.

No more water cooler for me, going to air once this is sorted. I had to send my mobo away as could not test the pci slot that had been exposed to coolant.

Any update on your damage claim OP?

It took UPS 12 days to delivered your package? :o

Did you placed invoices inside parcel or on outer of package?

If invoices placed inside parcel then that would explained it took twice longer through US customs.

My local UPS centrer manager never either contacted or emailed me. I emailed Corsair to explained what happened and they were very sorry to heard what happened with UPS. They send me new label and invoices to print out and recommended me to placed invoices with label in envelope with clear window pouch to avoided another problem with UPS.

I can't find envelopes with clear window pouch in shops then post office assistant told me she saw every customers used folded A4 document pocket to placed label with invoices in it and on outer of parcel. I emailed UPS customer service about it and said A4 document pocket will do it fine and told they wanted me to call back to arranged parcel picked up from home. UPS picked up my parcel on 18 Nov and it got cleared for export fine then delivered on 24 Nov with no issue like last time. Below is full track progress.

Now it been 1 week and I not heard from corsair yet. I will talk to Corsair customer service rep later if they are online.

I found someone back in 2013 with damaged GTX 680 caused by Corsair H100 leaked were send $500 check for new graphic card.

Here is the final disposition email from Corsair, I have cut and pasted the email content here for you all to read:

Our Engineering Team already tested the CWCH100 and according to the result, our cooler caused the damage to your system.
As compensation, we will go ahead and replace your CWCH100 with a brand new CW-9060009-WW (H100I).
For your Graphics Card, we will reimburse you for $500.00.
As for the LSI Card, according to our Engineering Team, they didn’t find anything wrong with this component and it works fine. We will go ahead and ship this unit back to you.

Once everything sort out and I will stay with AIO water cooler. Prior to H80 I had thermalright ultra 120 extreme for 3 years based on friends recommendation but after 3 years they and I realised huge air cooler like thermalright ultra 120 extreme were horrible and it was absolutely nightmare to cleaned harden dusts trapped in layers of metals which air compressor sprays failed to cleared it. They and I had lots of cuts on hands tried to cleaned dusts cos of sharp edges, like what friends did I put cooler in basin with hot water to cleaned it off took me few days with lots of efforts to cleaned dusts off before sold off bundled with Phnom Ii 940 CPU, 8GB memory and motherboard on eBay.

Huge air coolers like thermalright ultra 120 extreme is not worth hassle, it also caused motherboard to bended due to heavy weight. Here is no way for insanely massive monstrous cooler bigger than thermalright ultra 120 extreme like Noctua D15 can fit in my case. The best solution is buy a EKWB backplane for MSI GTX 970 that will prevent damage from leaks, when if my next water cooler leak again then I can clean off leaks on GTX 970 backplane and just RMA water cooler with no damage claim. I will avoided 240mm watercooler as it hang on ceil of case that can leak on motherboard while it don't have plate.

@ AthlonXP1800

Keep me updated as we are in similar circumstance, and I will do the same. It should have taken 10 days but I think thanksgiving holiday got in the way.

This is the thread I found from 2012 that worried me today they offered him $150 for a $400+ gpu http://www.overclock.net/t/1300669/...aphics-card-and-motherboard/400#post_18373335

The guy had to fight and fight and after a big thread like that corsair finally offered him what he deserved.

I had to send my 780 ti, my mobo and cpu to them, from tracking they received it yesterday (30th nov) so I expect will take a few days for a response. No chance am I going back to a closed loop system as this has been a major headache and I get the feeling they might turn round and offer me a very low amount. Even an on par performance amount I would be happy with (nevermind I will be without a pc for a month or more) so 780ti = 980, they go for about 380-400£ from what I seen today.

I swear if corsair offer me £100 -£200 I will be raging. I know my cpu is fine and my mobo I think is fine but not sure about the pci slot on it as that had quite a lot of residue around it. At this point I hope my mobo is fine, because if its not then I wont be able to get a replacement as none of the shops are selling z77 boards anymore.

I pre ordered fallout 4 and have not even been able to play it, that is what annoys me the most. If they lowball me with a compensation amount I will posting all over reddit. And parts in the UK cost more than they do in the US also.

Corsair Damage Claims

I will be happy to accept new replacement H80i GT but I am not very happy with pathetic £198.20 for GTX 970. I realised they offered closer to MSRP in US dollars but not UK pounds.

I will sent reply to say I found £198.20 fall short from UK current market price of £279.95 still the same price range I paid a year ago. Hope they can raise to $436 then I will be happy to accept $423 offer.

Considering the hoops you had to go through (not necessary corsair fault but UPS's) I would have hoped they offer you 980 money. Still considering the package only finaly left the UK on the 1st and you got a email today they have acted quickly at least.

Fingers crossed mate

Pretty pathetic amount and exactly what I feared, I would not accept that, tell them they need to be offering you at least 250, and thats not even counting the annoyance and time it has caused you to be without your PC, in the past it appears they have given people free ssd's to help compensate

Cant wait to get my reply, im guessing 250 for a 780 ti

They should be offering an on par new performance amount and then giving you something extra for the hassle. They obviously expect you to go buy a second hand 970 which which wont have a valid warranty

"The refund will be in the form of an electronic transfer which typically takes 2-3 weeks for processing and delivery." <-----------THATS RIDICULOUS ALSO (2-3 WEEKS)

Every time I'm tempted by an AIO cooler, I remind myself of stories like this, and that the temperature reduction over my current (modest, but quiet) air cooler won't make my PC perform any better. OK, I might squeeze a slightly better overclock, but that won't remove the concern about the possibility of a leak and the damage that can cause.

Water and electricity do not mix.

I think you got lucky and should accept what they have offered. It's a new cooler and almost enough to buy a brand new 970.

Where can I get a 970 for £200? Or £210 given you said "almost".

You can't unless its a second hand fleabay job, and apart from losing warranty you take the chance of buying a defective card, or being messed around buy a seller. Not to mention corsair are saying it will take further 2-3 weeks for payment to be sent/cleared. They should be sending him at least £250 asap + something for his inconvenience like an ssd or something.

I looked up cooler masters policy and they say they will replace any parts in full, and not just the "current market value."

So if your corsair cooler leaks over your parts we are going to lowball you and not even consider the time you will be without a PC basically.

Appears there going by US prices, in which cases over there 970's can be had around the $300-$310 mark. Currency conversion of $300 works out to around £200 give or take a few quid.

I thought as much, not a great deal. Although a few years ago you'd probably get nothing without going to small claims court I guess.

Ah right, well they should be taking the country it's in, into account.
