Failed AMD FX 8350 installation

I've still got my 4.9ghz 8320. Well, it's still in the family. Gave it to my step son for a replacement when the Alienware I gave him blew a PSU.

It was being used by my wife but I've since rebuilt the Alienware using a standard ATX PSU and chucked in a x79 board and 8 core 16t Xeon.

I'm not anti AMD at all. However, I am anti daft. And no matter what way you cut it buying an AMD FX 8 now and a really expensive board for it is daft.

Well, unless of course you are running VMware or something that uses the instructions that Intel cut from their K CPUs.

haha that's full water cooling.......and yes it would :D

A proper radiator with proper fans and a proper block always performs better. It is fundamentally more effective. Loads of benchmarks where high end AiO units are neck and neck some lose and some win but a proper custom loop is miles better thoguh there is an alternative to air and the corsair/kraken/other aios: the triton

The Triton is a good mix between custom and AiO and will outperform for an AiO pricing. Great little units, the block lets it down a little but if you replace the block/pump/res combo you essentially have a custom loop so, no point in doing that.

Leem if you search this forum (cpu section) you will find our overclocking FX thread which myself and Andy have posted loads into.

I am posting on my 8320 which is over 2 yrs old now stable an using efficiency settings on 4.5Ghz.

The posters you are currently reading have all championed the FX at some stage, however you wont get support if you base the rig on a chocolate teapot motherboard. :)

Sabertooth R2.0 is not chocolate teapot MB. Please don't get confused by it's colour :)

You need to use HWMON and keep an eye on the CPUTIN or whatever it is. Ignore the core temps they are false.

You'll soon find out which is which when the rig freezes :D

I would like others to comment on this but personally i don't like Corsair AIO coolers.

A lot of stories of them bleeding all over your GPU.

Others may have a different opinion on them but i wouldn't buy a Corsair AIO cooler.

The main culprits for leaking are Coolit AIOs. So that means the Corsairs with the square pumps. The round ones are Asetek and I have never had one leak.

I had a H110 on my 3970x for about 13 months and it was a great cooler, if a little tricky to fit due to it being dual 140. The only other issue is that Corsair only supply AF fans with it, due to not making any SP fans for 140mm. This means you really should replace the fans with something better.

Ed. Apols for DP.

Hmm liquid cooling sounds like a bit of a silent killer... I've looked up many reviews and every liquid cooler has a few saying it's leaked and destroyed their GPU/Mobo.

I'll just stick with the Noctua NH-D15 or Dark Rock 3... Cheers ;)

Didn't know that, thanks :)

Asus M5a87 AM3+ motherboard.

So after i replaced my old AMD Phenom II x4 955 with the FX 8350 i plugged it all back in and turned it on. Nothing on screen, no keyboard, mouse, headphones lighting up. No signal on monitor at all.

I was referring to your original option Leem ^.

For the record my motherboard is the r2 sabertooth. My only complaint is the onboard sound is naff and failed some time ago, otherwise a great OC board!

Ahh yes that was my old board.. Had it for 5 years it done great! But time to update :)

Did you get a sound card?

I did, I used an old soundblaster to get me by then an audigy thing I got from MM. The issue with win8.1 was the unsigned drivers making it a nightmare.

Built my computer last night, booted up first time! Running fantastic, FPS is back to 200+, overwhelmed :D Thanks for all the advice & help :D :D

Ok I'd try loading default settings or resetting your cmos.
Something in your bios is causing your cpu to stay at 7x which is 1400mhz.
if that doesn't change anything then have a look at setting your windows power mode to balanced or high performance.

If still stuck at 1400mhz then we need some screenshots of your bios so we can what settings are enabled, If we can go through some settings then we can maybe save yourself a mbaord. But like i said for £38-£43 you could get a board and it will run properly from out of the box and will even support an overclock to 4.5ghz with ease, providing you have a good cpu cooler.

Built my new PC last night... As you can see... Running like a dream! Thanks for the help man!:cool::cool:
