Failed AMD FX 8350 installation

Those screen shots don't tell anything except that the cpu was idling due to the alt-tab just like avenged said. This bench which would load the fx8 up well enough and sill run in windowed mode would be this.

What you need to do is use hwmonitor to show the volts and temps,
and use afterburner to log the cpu usage and gpu utilization when gaming.
In atilla i believe the fx series perform very poorly but it should be better than what you are getting.
I can guarantee like someone else has said your board will throttle the cpu in games that use high cpu load and lots of threads.
Even if your reduce the voltage of the cpu the board will throttle as it doesn't have apm, neither does it have any vrm cooling and it only has a 4 pin atx connector.

Get yourself a 78lmtusb3 for £38-43 and it'll solve a lot of time and is the cheapest solution bar 2nd hand high spec am3+ boards.

Here's where you'll be looking at when running the bench that i linked above in 1080p windowed mode. You would see the clocks throttling circled in red.
Also keep an ote of the core temp and cpu temp.

As you can see, my Clocks MHz do not change whatsoever, are all the same and do not move!

are you SURE it's my motherboard? I don't mind spending the money if you are certain that's my problem?

yes 100% either due to bios or the boards inability to support your cpu properly you are stuck at 1400mhz it's not clocking up. That is why you are seeing such crap performance.
But try the bencmark i showed you to test it's not just staying at 1400mhz in Atila.

edit can you do a screen print of cpu0z to show us the bios thats installed on the mboard please.

Yep here it is: http://imgur.com/CTPF125

I also tried both of the programs you suggested

Here are volts & temps: http://imgur.com/CFvAXaD

Ok I'd try loading default settings or resetting your cmos.
Something in your bios is causing your cpu to stay at 7x which is 1400mhz.
if that doesn't change anything then have a look at setting your windows power mode to balanced or high performance.

If still stuck at 1400mhz then we need some screenshots of your bios so we can what settings are enabled, If we can go through some settings then we can maybe save yourself a mbaord. But like i said for £38-£43 you could get a board and it will run properly from out of the box and will even support an overclock to 4.5ghz with ease, providing you have a good cpu cooler.

I've already tried all that! Changed all the Advanced Settings to make sure everythings at MAX and it changed nothing at all!
A new motherboard it is!
If & when i get a new mobo, I'm gona take it so someone can install it properly. PC world? As I don't trust the local shops.

I've got my eye on 3, which one do you think?

Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Asus Crosshair Formula V Formula Z
Gigabyte 990FXA UD3

How far do you want to clock ? and what cpu cooler do you have?
Do you need sli/cf,

Lol without mentioning any competitors, you will find the majority of small local firms have hugely more enthusiastic/knowledgeable members who know what they are doing more so than huge company's like the one you mentioned who don't care about the quality of there work.

So many boards struggle to run the 8350 with bad power delivery :/

I'd love to SLI in the future(2 years), two 970s would be crazy.

I've only got a stock cooler but when I get new mobo i'll get new Case, SSD & Fan.

I will probably clock to 4.6 if i really need to if I eventually get this running properly.

So as I've read previously, any board with "990FX" on it is mostly compatible? Is that correct?

To invest into a decent new cooler and an expensive mboard am3+ you really must get your fx8350 to 4.8-5ghz otherwise you are chucking £130+cooler down the toilet, when cheaper components like a mid range cooler and the 78lmtusb3 will get you to 4.5ghz with ease, or even Intel is a better solution for that money.

You need to look at games you play to see if amd is worthwhile investing into or if intel is.

For £70-£80 then you have the m5a97 evo r2.0, or the gig 970a ud3p.
The msi 970 gaming and asock fatal1ty boards don't have llc so it can hamper overclocking.

For £100-130 you have the gigabyte 990fx ud3 or sabertooth.
I'd buy the sabertooth but, I wouldn't buy a sabertooth today, I'd invest into z97.

To swap to intel is like £500 after parts & installation. a lot of money after just spending around £400,

Gonna need a new case, fan, ssd (install OS on there) motherboard & £250 CPU...

Is it really worth it?

I mainly play CS:GO and Total War..

Couldn't I just get a sabertooth am3 & a £30 cooler?

if you play csgo sell your Rig and get 4690k. Trust me Intel is where you want to be for Gaming

ummm cool and quiet is a great tool to use in OCing these chips. c6 should be turned off......one thing is to try turning off either c&q in bios or check your power settings in windows to make sure its not locking you to that speed for some reason.......

970a is another good board...

No !

Dude, why didn't you listen to me when I first told you that this board is not compatible? It would have saved you time and stress.

Most 990FX boards are OK. Some are 6 phases though and some are 8 but a couple are 4 and 4 phases are not ideal for OCing. However, it's the phase cooling that helps.

Avoid boards like the Asrock 990FX Extreme 3 they are useless and whatever board you like the look of post it here first (not the link to competitors the model) and get it checked by us.

^ Also, with the amount of threads that appear on these topics it really is a shame that the way a lot of these boards are set up claiming they will be " compatible " with X cpu but is really just a waste of money because it doesn't work right.

IMHO if a board isn't able to run a cpu at it's advertised speeds under regular circumstances, it should not be listed as compatible.
