** Star Wars Episode VII - SPOILERS WITHIN **

There's certainly an age thing. Fans who were kids when the original trilogy came out love them and hate the prequels and 7. Fans who were kids when the prequels came out think there fine and have lower opinions of the originals. Fans who are kids now will think 7 is great.

Its as if the films aren't made for old men, but are instead made for new fans and younger kids...

Exactly, nail on the head. Lucas made a kids film adults just cannot let go of. I hated attack of the clones even more than TPM. I still do to a degree. Then I watched my son watch it. I video'd his face, concentration during one of my least favourite bits, the dooku/yoda fight when he watched it for the very first time. I was worried he would stop breathing. That was the point I finally got it in my thick head he was the new generation, rightly or wrongly that would lap this **** up for the rest of his life.

Exactly, JJ is trying to make a film for multiple generations who have very different expectations whilst being pulled in a different direction by Disney who are funding it. Exactly why with all of these factors in the mix it is as good as it could be - I should probably add at this point that this is my opinion, before someone throws a hissy fit.

Watched TFA a second time without interruption, I'd place TFA above ROJ and all the prequels. Pace is a bit iffy first half, find the second half pay off and young cast worth the wait. The humour doesn't punch through as well on the second viewing but the highs and lows are enough to make it well worth a repeat go. Love Rey Love Fin Love BB8, Kylo Wren has a depth missing from Anakin in the prequels. Whats there is done with love for the originals and despite shortcomings does a lot of work to set up a very interesting proposition for the next saga. Biggest feeling of want to see the next part of the saga since ESB which was the mother of all gotcha hooked endings....

It was an immensely enjoyable film.

Was it perfect? No.
Was it terrible? No.
Was it brilliant? No.
Was it what I wanted? Not quite.
Was it better than the prequels? Yes. Absolutely.

It was a flawed film, but enjoyable. I also, did not mind at all that the story arch borrowed so many story elements from the first two films. Films are all intertextual, so there is always similar story elements, in this case it helped with the nostalgia.

On second viewing I thought it stood up very well. It also allowed me to concentrate on some things like it was Poe that killed Fin's friend which caused him to doubt himself and the First Order for the first time that we saw. I'm not entirely sure but it's a possibility that the 'influenced' Stormtrooper that released Rey could have been Daniel Craig.

Super8 is garbage, cloverfield has far more interest but to each his own.
Super 8 was made as a homage to Spielberg and his films. To say it's a rehash is, I suppose, entirely accurate because of it.

Indeed. I would go as far as saying it could easily have been a Spielberg film, which is a compliment.

I thought it was a good film, just a film that is outdated by modern filmmaking, sort of.

I was 13 when Phantom Menace came out. I wasn't a Star Wars fan before then, I don't think I'd even seen the originals. Episode 1 got me into Star Wars and I actually quite like the Prequels. Looking back they are full of issues, but I still enjoy them, and I am proof that they did exactly what they were designed to do, get new fans onboard.

Episode 7 is exactly the same, and I'm awake enough to recognise that and not fly off the handle at it not being a film designed for 30/50 years olds.

Primarily for me, Star Wars is entertainment, and all of the movies entertain me. As a bonus, it generates cool merchandise for me to waste money on (Lego). Trying to analyse them too much is like dissecting a frog, nobody is really interested and the frog dies...

I watched the phatom edit a shorter less jaja binks filled cut of the film, very nearly excellent, that said the force awakens is lots more interesting even if john williams phoned in his score for TFA...

Good point I can't remember any of the sound track. But the phantom menace final fight is made by duel of the fates. Whenever my son watches it I stop what I'm doing for that bit.

How great TFA would have been with a maul in training rather than an emo upset because he can't find a skinny jeans seller.

Yep I posted this a while back and was flamed for it...

I noticed it on first viewing...it was very obvious to everyone I was with...

He was filming spectre at the time at pinewood.

Who says it's her most prized and valuable possession?

Fear and intimidation. The flamethrowers were being used to destroy people's homes. Word of mouth intimidation to stop others aiding the resistance.

She's got something more important than Luke's sabre?

Why not just use a laser ? More efficient at blowing up people's homes.

Lol, "flamed"

Put the 'victim' card away, it clashes with your ego. You stated it was him, I asked for more evidence than a story from a single journalist (given that he's not listed as a credited or uncredited actor in the film, and everyone denies it), and your response was to say I was stupid for not noticing his voice, and then declared that you had won the 'argument' when I decided it was pointless trying to discuss anything with someone with such a superiority complex.

You weren't flamed, someone just disagreed with you. I know you think that means they are an idiot and nothing they say is valid, but stop trying to portray an image of poor bullied little easyrider. Its pathetic.

(Also, "first viewing"? You've seen it more than once... seems rather off given the effort you have put into claiming its rubbish)

As in the first time I saw it...and not once I have called anyone stupid ...so you're now telling lies.

Link to me stating it?

If you don't then I'm correct Again...ill wait for your link but I'll be waiting for eternity as I never said it.
You going to ask Nutella for proof ?

Every film except maybe a handful of masterpieces are going to have a few continuity flaws or minor faults if you examine them closely enough!!
However personally I think one should judge a film on its entirety rather than be pedantic about minor niggles that overall have little to no significant effect on the experience.
Also considering you rated 'Jurrasic World' higher than 'The Martian' I think your ability to differentiate between a good film and a bad film super sucks! :p
