Steam Link and Steam Controller now available to Pre Order

I can't stress enough for those with issues how much other in game overlays mess with things. Disabling FRAPS for me help massively.

Bought both products yesterday.
Steamlink works a treat, played Just Cause 3 most of last night.

Steam controller is another story. I cannot get used to the track pad. I don't know if I'm not tweaking the sensitivity right, or I'm dragging my thumb, but looking around seems tricky. Also, the A,B,X,Y button placement seems alien to stretch to. Going to give it a few more days, but might just return it.

Tried mass effect and contagion last night. Mass effect would get as far as the main loading screen then the controller would stop talking to the game (still connext ed to the link though) and contagion would lock the link up, needing a hard reset.

Fun.

I gave up trying to get the steam controller working with ME2, but there's a flawless xbox controller mod if you have one of those:

I think he's working on a mod for 1 and 3 aswell.

You should try the gyro when using mouse look - makes it much easier and more fluid

So bit of an update.

I bought rocket legue and as usual had problems with screen flickering black etc. So had a quick google and it seems many people had no problems with it. So I did a bit of fault finding and it seems for some reason it does not like running through my AV receiver.

As soon as I plugged it directly into the TV rocket league on beautiful with all settings as high as they could be played great with zero notable delay using a wired Xbox one controller. I am yet to test any other games but this is the first time ive had it that its worked flawlessly.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

Has anyone got mass effect or metro working with a controller properly on the link??

I can't seem to get a stutter free experience on the link no matter what settings I use. It can be fine for 2-3 minutes, then I might get a full 10 seconds of freezing and sound distortion before it clears again. This is with a home plug network that gives about 30mb connection speed :(

Ive heard SLI was causing problems but may have been fixed now. My experience today was with SLI disabled but will try over the next few days with it enabled.

Sorry I cannot help you with the home plugs as mine is wired via gigabit lan.

Well I got a Link and a Controller for Christmas :) seems to be okay so far and performance once in-game is good for me (wired gigabit lan at both ends)...

However the issue is sometimes actually getting to that point in the first place!!! One game I've been playing lately that I thought would be a good candidate for some TV action was XCOM:EW... however the Link seems to get confused by the popup you get on launching that allows you to select EW/EU... and then if/when it does manage to get past that part I don't appear to be able to control anything at the menu. The controller can still toggle the Steam Overlay to open, but it won't let me move the pointer or change the menu options...

Has anyone else tried XCOM and found this?

Havent used the link for a while but found it pretty faultless for me and my needs! However last night i tried to play resident evil 4 on it and for some reason every now and the the screen freezes but the game is still running and i can still control it blindly. Then after say 20seconds it will continue.

Any one else had this or could it be related to the game specifically

I have enrolled in the beta builds of steam and the link so maybe thats it?

*reverted back to non beta build and still getting these issues, reset router etc aswell! I dont get it, when i used it loads a few weeks back i couldnt pick a fault with it and now its like this, have left resident evil paused while i eat my dinner just now and the menu music sort of skips every now and then, probably related

Any recomendations?

Im using network home plugs to link the pc to the router and the link is plugged straight into the router, as i say it wasnt an issue until thsese past few days

Cheers

Wait for the next Beta client update sadly :(

They changed around some of the hardware encoding stuff before christmas and it broke streaming for a lot of people including me and a friend.

I get the feeling they didn't want to push another beta client during the Steam holiday sales. Now they are over I reckon we'll see updates rapidly again.

I've been using mine with a variety of games games like Gauntlet & Ori & it works very well (500mbps powerline).

I was getting a hitching issue but it turned out to be the supplied hdmi cable & it dissapeared after I swapped it out.

The update just before Christmas screwed mine up for sure, it was pretty solid until then.

Since the latest update I'm not getting sound over the stream. I get sounds in Big Picture mode but when I launch a game I get no sound.

I was playing fine last night so have no clue what's going on!

Seems Steam is muting my sound but even after unmuting, still nothing over the link. Grrrr bloody annoying!

Sound is a pain in the arse for me. I have a xonar d2 and it just doesnt work with streaming at all. I have to set my onboard audio as my default device for audio to work with streaming. So many issues with it at the moment that i just dont use it, shame but at least i didnt pay for mine.

I had two active home plugs on the same extension, that was what was causing my pauses. Once I made sure the one connected to the PS3 was off, the Steam Link one worked liked a charm.

Considering one of these myself guys, whats the deal with using a wirless 360 controller and is the connection generally good on wireless? and does anyone else get issues with sound using a soundcard like James does? I also have a Soundblaster ZR
