** Star Wars Episode VII - SPOILERS WITHIN **

I don't think a lot of the stuff discussed will be explained TBH in EP8 ...TFA wants the audience to just accept stuff without explanation.

The obvious stuff with Luke will drive the narrative in the next movie but the fluff we want answers for will be swept under the carpet...

TFA requires a leap of faith , but unless you are willing to just soak it up the niggles will ruin it for old school fans.

But it's clear Disney don't care about that...they just want to drive the machine forward...they've popped in the old characters as a token gesture tick box and will now create what they want...the rules have changed.

There is nothing to base that on. No one is denying if she learnt all that in 5 minutes they won't be dissapointed, but everyone is at least prepared to give it time in the trilogy. I voiced my own dislikes with the film, once or twice but saying none of that will be resolved, well I'm willing to wager Rey's back story will be filled in. If not in Ep 8 then the last of the trilogy.

I don't see why that's such a problem, comparing it to the originals make no sense as Star Wars had to be made as a stand alone film, they didn't gamble on a trilogy so everything had to appear finished. This one was always a trilogy, it's like watching the first episode of game of thrones and then complaining you don't know all the back story to the White Walkers.

This will be an ever expanding and evolving universe, you are not going to get all the answers in one film. Again I wasn't a big fan of it and some of your earlier complaints where similar to mine but jeez this has gone on so long now I don't see what's to be gained repeating yourself.

For me, the issue has been blown up a little because it's pretty much the (or at least on of the most) pivotal moment of the film.

In such an important scene, there needs to be a little more behind it for the viewer to not think what the hell is going on.

I don't think it's much to ask for TBH. I just hope the remake of highlander goes ahead...:D

Rewatched the Phantom Menace yesterday and am going to go out on a limb and say that it was a 'better' star wars film than TFA... It was certainly very poor and there were a lot of cringe worthy moments, poor dialogue and bad acting... But overall the pacing and character develpment in the film was better than TFA.

All this picking apart of what is enesstaily a bunch of kids films.

I never see this sort of discussion with harry potter films.

Enjoy it for what it is or move on people

It is quite pathetic that grown men are picking apart a kids film.
I was going to mention Harry Potter but Easyrider would probably say they are perfect.

Whut? Wecare debating whether Rey should be able to use the force so quickly ... And then someone says that Phantom Menace is better, despite anakin flying a Star Fighter with zero training aged about 9.

Picking apart a film and questioning a poorly portrayed sequence that is a pivotal part of the film is a little different.
Besides, it's not like this is aimed at purely at kids, and even if it was, it's still no excuse for a lack of intelligent writing.
You think the creators of this film have no idea that there is a massive following from adults?

There are plenty of films that ARE aimed at kids that retain intelligence that appeals to all ages and stand up to scrutiny within the bounds of their own rules.

Toy Story
Back to the Future (well, as time travel films go anyway)
Shrek
Lion King
etc...
Absolutely watertight and making sense aren't the same thing before someone pipes up with a 'but Petey'...

As said, Harry Potter makes sense within it's own rules.

Perhaps you choose to oversimplify things because you just don't get it.

Disney are being super conservative with the Star Wars franchise and only want to drip feed details to fans over the course of many films.

I think whether you enjoy these films or not is a question of how much filler you can tolerate. For many of us it was like watching a music video or a tech demo for a graphics card. No substance behind the pretty facade. With that said, even on a technical level I don't think the actors gelled very well with their surroundings in TFA. The effects of Guardians of the Galaxy were much more believable.

The humour derived from the some of the films you mention connect adults with the story by intertexual references only adults will get...

The kids see it for what it is but the adults get the in joke.

Clever writing right there.

Agree 100%, there's a lot in those films that kids don't get.
