34" UltraWide decision

Are you still impressed Wellibob a few more days into use? General use, surfing, work etc. I am still thinking about pulling the trigger on the AOC. I have got a 780ti so it should run fine until pascal is released.

I'm very happy with it (vivid colour's especially). I still prefer VA panels personally as IPS panels have this glow (whether it's minor or not) but apart from that it's lovely. My 980GTX also is handling the resolution much better than I had anticipated.

Cheers for getting back to me. The glow is an issue. The Dell I had was yellow at the four corners and that was with the brightness down at 25% and normal use (surfing, gaming etc) any lower and the rest of the colours suffered. Hence why I sent is back. I take it your AOC has next to none during normal use? only if a full black background?

whats the verdict on LG34UC97 vs the acer x34?

am shopping for a 34" freesync :P

LG have one of the worst warranties I have ever encountered on a consumer item, I have a 34UM95 and it has been a nightmare to deal with them or OcUK about.

I don't know what Acer are like for warranties but it would be impressive if they were worse than LG.

The Glow with IPS on my AOC is very very mild indeed. Probably one of the best if not the best IPS panel I've seen tbh. Due to its width it's an amazing, IPS unit in my books.

What dramas have you been having Omar?

I'm days away from pulling the trigger on one of the Super Wides and this is worrying.

After 28 days OcUK will not deal with the warranty on monitors so you need to deal with LG.

You need to log an RMA request, they'll take their time responding and then asking for photos of the issue via email. Their system for this is pretty poor so you'll have a back and forth for days (if not weeks and months like I did). Then because it's only a collect-and-return warranty rather than on-site or swap-out you will be without a monitor for potentially 2 weeks or more.

I had to get assistance from the LG account manager for OcUK and even then it has taken over 3 months to get LG to accept the repair.

Not exactly the sort of service you expect when you've spent £800 on a monitor!

That is worrying, I'm looking at dropping the better part of £700 on LG.

What is the problem that you are having with the panel?

Excessive light bleed, dead/stuck pixels (that couldn't be fixed by running the usual flashing colour videos), random electrical popping noise even with the internal monitor speakers turned off, intermittent screen tearing issue down the centre of the screen.

I'm debating whether to go curved or flat. One of the main reasons for curves is that it sits better in the corner... which is kind of a feeble reason but if there wasn't a premium involved then it would be a no brainer for me.

On the note of fish-eyeing and distortion, I guess it could happen but I doubt my eyes would be good enough to detect it.

The curve is very slight on them so I doubt it would sit any better in a corner than a flat one.

Well after 2 weeks LG have posted back what I thought was my repaired monitor, but is instead somebody else's repaired home theatre speaker system! Incompetence isn't a strong enough word!

I'm emailing the photos to LG to see what they have to say. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt when I saw the home theatre box and assumed it was just the box they re-used to send back my monitor.

To add insult to injury the shipping label actually says 34UM95-P on it! :p

On the plus side, I bet someone's loving the 34" surprise they got in the post this morning :p

The LG cust service issues have scared me right off. I've been looking at the Dell u3415w instead.

Now, can someone tell me if there is a massive difference between the two.
I see a slightly different bigger viewing angle on the LG
An extra miniport on the Dell
And an adjustable stand on the dell.
And Dells good cust service/warranty

Other than that, I see the same panel. What do you think?
