Von and everyone, thank you very much.
Appreciate you typing that all out for me, explains it perfectly! :D

I am questioning it though, everywhere these days has 0% finance options it seems, I think for the very small saving over from C2W it is not worth the hassle?

Reading your revised calcs though, hmmmm, it is tempting! I am definitely a underpaid lacky due to location, so will be lower tax rate. I just checked my payslip and I had £732 deducted this month to tax/NI, it breaks my heart :(

Cycle Surgery have finally dispatched light after a paypal dispute was opened and I complained on their twitter feed.

On the other hand - ordered new brakes for mountain bike (SLX M675 - £75) - from Merlin, Ordered at 11.42, dispatched at 12.35. That's what I like!

Personally I'd refuse the delivery and keep on with the refund - too little too late. But I'm a bit vindictive at times... :p

Vons original quote included the duff bike. Without that you're saving 25% almost which in my opinion is worth it. Got the full 1k, will get some shorts or something on top. Called and spoke to a couple of people and have email trail, and as soon as I get the voucher I'll get them ordered and if not get the agreement cancelled.

Reported a massive 3ft long by 1ft deep pot hole, that I almost ended up in last night, via Fix My Street... Richmond Upon Thames Borough Council responded:

Quote:
Thank you for your email.

As this pothole is on a red route, the council do not look after these routes.

Please contact Transport for London to report this issue using the following methods:

Telephone: 0343 222 1234

Email: [email protected]

Why don't they communicate with TfL themselves instead of delaying the fix that could cause serious injury?! Urgh.

After forwarding it on to TfL myself they just responded:

Thank you for your feedback form of 18 January 2016, about a pothole on the junction with Uxbridge Road and Broad Lane.

I’m very sorry for the inconvenience the road defect is causing, and I appreciate the time you have taken to raise your concerns with us.

I have checked this location and it isn’t part of our red route network.

I’ve therefore passed this information to Richmond upon Thames council, as this area comes under their responsibility.

I appreciate your patience in this matter.

Thanks again. If there is anything else we can help you with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can speak to one of our Customer Service Advisers on 0343 222 1234 who will be happy to help you.

Kind regards

It's a game of pass the buck... utterly useless!

Have you tried resending the email but telling them that you're a driver rather than a cyclist?

Aha!

Richmond have finally taken responsibility after TfL sent them that.

A request to repair the pothole referenced in your email was logged on 19/01/16 under reference number 4674046. The damage should be inspected no later than Monday 25/01/16.

If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thinking about it the repair request was probably logged as a result of my telephone call to the council than any of these emails.

Though considering it's quite big I might try pop by and get proper photos and just tweet it out.

New chain time, not replaced it in around 3500 miles :o

New chain had the same number of links but looked at least 2 links shorter!

Probably much longer if you change the chain out regularly. Talk of cassettes lasting a year in the pro peloton with the chains being changed so often.

I just changed my cassette out of paranoia more than anything - it had done just over 6k miles and wasn't really showing any signs of wear...but I had just got my PM and a new chain so I thought I'd make the whole drivetrain feel a bit newer :)

Also, it was easier to swap out than clean it properly...

Question for you all: What water bottles do you use? I like the Elite Corsa ones, but I don't like the idea of my nozzle being exposed (ooh err) to the elements/road dirt/mess.

Cube 500ml cheapo's. Fully exposed.
Rule #5 - Learn to love the taste of the gritty muddy diesel filth on your nozzle. Be more Belgian.

lolz :p

I just use whatever is cheapest too. The Wiggle 800ml bottles are okay though a little leaky. Before that I just used the high5 bottles that came with tubes of electrolyte tablets.

Camelbak Podium Chills here, picked up a few from Cycle Surgery when they were knocking them out cheaply. The insulation doesn't work all that well but they are nice to drink out of (I don't like the ones where you have to pull the nozzle open with your teeth).
