Harmless 39 year old alcoholic woman tortured and beaten to death by girls aged 13 and 14.

I have got no idea what you are telling me.

If its torturing a human being to death for fun...yes, yes they should be judged for it.

They should be judged and dealt with now, sure. The development of a mind from their age to adult is substantial enough to not give them the same judgement 10 years from now. My point is, the fact they are so young is very relevant.

Steven Pinker has an excellent TED talk on how historic records show that the chances of a violent death at the hands of another human being have steadily gone down as civilisation has flourished.

But there are always those who without evidence say the opposite...

I've always suspected it was because of the way things are reported now, it must seem like things are getting worse but it's probably just that we're hearing about everything.

Back during feudalistic times it was probably a lot more likely you'd die at the hands of another (per head of population) but far less likely you'd know about all those who were murdered in the next village let alone nation wide.

So I'd agree, it is likely we hear a lot more terrible things, than we are now likely to ever experience first hand.

What's troubling is people seem to revel in the chilling (and obviously tragic) stories.

Sickening.

This is where lack of discipline at home and in the schools allows it to happen...

If I'd raised my hand to anyone my dad would beaten the **** out of me - so I never did and never wanted to!

So did your grandad beat your dad for raising a hand to you?

I don't agree with the that in the age we live in.

People who jump in with what harsh thing we as a state should be do to the teenagers that did this, often neglect to mention that tragically a human being lost their life. just saying.

Perhaps, it's not just the sick teenagers who display a lack of empathy.

Personally I was saddened to hear about this on many levels, no I don't think it occurs because we don't smack children enough these days.

Wtf, some seriously sick little *******s out there.:eek:
They also used a shovel, a printer and a coffee table..
"A number of implements were used as weapons. They included: a wooden stick with screws standing proud of the surface; a television set; a printer for a home computer; a coffee table; and a shovel.
And it also looks like they put some kind of paper pad in her ear and set fire to it
"Her head was turned to the left and ash was recovered from her right ear which appears to have come from a pad of paper which had been burnt through."

Whatever their respective histories, I'm willing to bet their upbringings were anything but namby pamby.

It's very likely indeed that they knew violence from a young age.

Indeed, some people here don't have a clue!
Robert Thompson was physically abused as a child and how well did that turn out?
Statistics and studies CLEARLY show that children who are bought up in violent environments are FAR more likely to become anti-social, aggressive and violent, how'd have thought!!
We've only had a few million years of evolution to show we are a product of our environment!

As for people advocating the hanging of messed up troubled children
On many levels you're sicker than these kids are!!!
