Harmless 39 year old alcoholic woman tortured and beaten to death by girls aged 13 and 14.

It's so easy in this country to take a life and then get away with a silly sentence behind the bars. More burden on the tax payer and the society itself. Hang these heartless murderers.

Well thats put a downer on my morning, how horrible. Whats even worse is that in all that time someone must heave heard something.

Irrespective of how these girls ended up the way they are, something has to be done with them now.

I have a 14 year old daughter who knows that killing and torturing someone is wrong so IMO, these girls should be treated as adults.

You'd just have to lock them indefinitely and keep them under review. If they've been conditioned by upbringing to behave like that, it's unlikely that behaviour is going to be unlearned.

I don't think anyone commits a murder thinking oh well I'll be out in 8

ermmmm

The following day the older girl began asking her care worker how long the sentence was for murder.

When she was told it could be seven years for manslaughter she said the sentence might "sort her out" as she could do courses behind bars and would have her own TV and Playstation.

We live in a country that doesn't support state sanctioned killing of criminals.
If you truly advocate that, there are plenty of countries for you to consider moving to :)

wait so if this was back in a time when hanging was still a legal punishment (1998/1965 depending on your view) would you have said

When was the last hanging?
We've progressed quite some way since then as has much of the developed world.
BTW I wouldn't even holiday in a area that supports the death penalty let alone live in one.

Clearly going back to the death penalty would be to regress.

By trying to change things, do you mean chuck angry comments around on a computer shops forum?

well in the 60's i suppose it would be a pub, and vote for the mp's opposed

but i just find the argument "if you dont like it leave" bizarre.

as if everyone followed that attitude we'd still have the death penalty, and lots of other unpleasant things.

We just do not punish bad people in this country anymore.

You have do do something pretty appalling to actually get locked up, and even then it's usually in some cushy place more akin to a holiday home.

There needs to be a proper deterrent.

Fair enough, though I didn't say if you don't like it leave. I said there are a range of countries you can consider moving to and it wasn't exactly meant as the most serious comment ever made.

I believe in the developed world there are 5 countries that still support the death penalty.

You mean harsher sentences and the death penalty like in the US where crime rates are sky high?

Deterrents only work up to a point, it is people taking responsibility for their actions that prevents crime. This is taught through good parenting and community / society.

Wouldn't they be locked/held away indefinitely given that they sound like murdering psychopaths?

James Bulger's killers were murdering psychopaths. They were given 10 years (oh, and new identities so nobody would come after the sick ****s) and now one of them is back behind bars for being a paedophile.

The system obviously works!

They deserve kicking to death, from my cursory read my guess is the victim was a spent prostitute and the perps wanted money off her but then got into it.
