US: Black Sails - STARZ's new original series, with pirates!

Now I'm a huge fan of the setting which goes greatly towards my appeal for this show but this has been growing on me more and more. Been quite hooked this season and actually genuinely upset now at what happened in the latest episode (ep 9).

Where have O seen the guy playing the new govenor before? I looked on IMDB but didn't recognise his previous work. A UK TV show perhaps?

Hasn't he done a lot of work of Holby City?

Jesus, whilst his voice got on my thrupny bits at times I'm gonna miss Charles Vane :(

I watch quite a bit of TV and seen a lot of people die off in shows like The Walking Dead but this is the first time in some time when I am actually genuinely upset at a character's death in a show :(

Same I still can't believe it. I was willing him for a way out but still shocked.

He possibly had a way out but decided not to take it - be interesting to see what happens now with Blackbeard!

I too was really shocked at the way they did it - very realistic >.<

Blackbeard is going to be MAD to say the least, I think there's little doubt that he will be joining Flint in the latest episode albeit for different reasons. Sniffing around IMDB it looks though as it may have actually been the actor's decision to kill off Vane, the shooting schedule in South Africa is pretty grueling and he has young children along with other work now. We may be able to blame "The 100" for this one ;)

Now this is hardly a historically accurate show as it has a mixture of real life and fictional characters but here is some speculation for not just the next episode but season so let's call this a historical spoiler:

With the show starting in 1715 and now in the third season it's safe to assume we are in 1718 which is indeed when Woodes Rogers was appointed as the governor of Nassau. Now we are already seeing a big diversion from history as Vane died under different circumstances three years later (1721) and it was in actual fact Blackbeard who died in 1718 before him. Wonder if we may see a big sacrifice/death from him in the season finale.

We also know that Rackham doesn't have a happy ending historically as he was hanged in 1720 although I doubt they'll kill off too many major characters so close together so I think it may be a storyline in the next season. I don't think the new government of Nassau is going to be capturing the gold back in the next episode but I also don't think they will be completely destroyed.

This will of course spark the reaction from the Spanish for next season and as promised if gold wasn't delivered will lead to the attack on Nassau. Way storyline is at the moment and how the characters speak there isn't currently a conflict between Spain and Great Britain so current events must be just before the War of the Quadruple Alliance which kicked off at the end of 1718. The historical raid on Nassau in 1720 will surely be the major story line of next season and be interesting to see where Flint will stand on that as Rogers will be launching a desperate bid to defend the island.

10 episodes but yeah it's rather short. This is a very expensive show though and shooting schedule is something like 7 months out of the year. I also didn't realise Michael Bay was involved in this, best thing he ever made :p

Episode most definitely delivered and then some and set the next season nicely without any cheeky cliffhangers. Hornigold was bound to get it but I didn't really dislike his characters, he knew who he was and didn't shy away from it.

We can definitely expect the Spanish to make an entrance into the next season now that they have failed to secure the gold but be interesting to see how that affects the dynamic between Rogers and this new pirate alliance.

I also think we may see a death from Rackham and Teach, not sure what they will do with Eleanor as she may end up that characters people love to hate but never seems to die.

Well that was over all too soon. Ten episodes doesn't seem enough, but I'd rather 10 quality episodes than 20 mediocre ones.

Absolutely fantastic and spectacular finale. Everything is set up nicely for next season.

Will be interesting to see what impact Silver's new found (and unasked for) reputation will have on his blossoming bromance with Flint.

Gutted to lose some strong characters along the way, especially Vane of course, but it helps keep the storytelling tense. I just hope they don't bump Rackham off anytime soon, he's always amusing. Sadly, history points to how things might unfold.
