Looks like you had a cracking time booyaka :D

@ Roady, that DCR website looks really good. Might have a good read of stuff there, then make up my mind. So much choice!

Last weekend I went to my parents with the kids and left her indoors... indoors. I had been planning to cycle to my parents' place and back, as the original idea was for just me to go, but things changed and all of a sudden I was taking the kids and not getting to ride 80odd miles over the weekend. I really wanted to cycle a bit round where my parents live and I was damned if I was going to miss a whole weekend, so I decided I'd take my bike with me. My bikes live in an Asgard box, so if I could get one out of there she wouldn't notice, as there was no way she'd spot that the bike rack had gone from the shed. So I did all the packing, got everything in the car, and then somehow managed to get the rack fitted and the bike on the back of the car without her noticing anything untoward. I got the kids ready and we said our goodbyes in the living room. I put the girls in the car. One of them asked why my bike was on the back so I shushed them before the wife heard. I was sat in the driver's seat. The key was in the ignition. SHE OPENED THE FRONT DOOR. She wanted to check that she hadn't left her house keys in the car. She saw the bike on the back of the car, but didn't say anything, I just got a look. We found her keys and then I drove away and said NOTHING.

Marriage. Seriously.

Amazing, genuinely laughing man. When you got to the part about her spying the bike on the car, I knew no words would be spoken, all you would get is "the look" OF DEATH.

First club chaingang of the year this evening. One of the blokes was home 10mins from work and straight out the door.... no biggy, except it is their wedding anniversary :p We may never see him again, or divorce is in progress!

Women

Terrible news, thoughts to you all out there touch if you see this and to the family of the guy.

I heard from our mate who is part of the club on whatsapp, they're all gutted and cannot believe it. I feel devastated for my mates out there, can't imagine dealing with it whilst all out there and trying to make the most of their time still, the shock will have really hit home just how easy this sort of thing can happen in the grand scheme.
And for the poor guys family, no words. :(

Absolutely this, but also in a great place to send him off just riding and remembering him doing the thing he and them enjoy.

Just stay safe is the overwhelming message tho!

Glad I spent ages getting my bike sparkling clean for today's ride. It seemed like Surrey was half flooded in places today, I don't know whether it was from the storm the other day or whether there's burst water mains everywhere but nearly all the quiet descents were waterlogged. My road bike now looks like I've been doing a CX race :(

Same! Just cycled back down the perimeter of Richmond Park down the hill from the Richmond Gate roundabout... drain is just overflowing there and creating a river down the whole road.

On another note... the number of cyclists in the park without lights on tonight was insane. Some idiot was overtaking me at well over 30mph and almost wiped out a cyclist on the other side of the road that he didn't see. Of course he ignored my gesture pointing out the cyclist and signalling stop.

Do what you can to go - it's amazing. Flights were £60, Accomadation was £40 each (8 of us), bikes £50 plus spending. Totally worth it.

Who did you use for bike hire? I'm looking to go out again and previously used ProCycleHire which IIRC was 26EUR/day, I'm thinking that for 6 days almost gets to the point of preferring to bring my own out and hire a box + pay the luggage charges.

Shimano are on a roll with the disc brakes. They unveiled their 105 ones the other day, on top of the ultegra ones, and there's sora mechanical discs and they've just announced tiagra hydraulic ones now.

Sort of ties up with what Troy (tl45) said the other day about it being a changeable time for bikes and wondering whether to commit to a new bike just yet...

it was http://www.mallorcabikehire.com/

Good bikes, top condition, well maintained. no punctures between us all (10)

Worked out at £50 for 3 days hire. Two other lads were going for a week and they took their own bikes which Ryanair charged £60 each way!! (flight was £60 return plus £120 to take their own bikes)

Whelp...date booked for my 300 mile audaux. 18th of June.

If anyone nearish wants to join us for some or all of it feel free :) Starting just before lunch time on the 18th...back home around midnight on the 19th

:o Is that an audax UK event or just a thing you've planned? Good luck either way! Not sure of plans that weekend but I'll join you for a bit if there's no events on. :)

Ouch. I believe it's £35 on easyjet each way (if booked online) or free with BA.

Odd as I was riding there yesterday afternoon and it was fine and it's not rained since!

Down Star and Garter Hill? I think it's potentially related to the building works over the road rather than rain. Water just gushing out down the road. My description probably wasn't clear enough to indicate I was outside the park :p

Certainly got me thinking...

I just went out with the local shop club ride https://www.strava.com/activities/532000220/overview

Omg dead.
If you have a look at the PRs I got on some of the sections you'll see how fast I normally aren't.
I think I gave it everything just to keep up to west tanfield, even though I was mostly being dragged along by the group. Legs died on the climb out of west tanfield (man, I SUCK at climbing, and it's not even that steep, just a bit uphill). A nice bloke called Rob gave me a tow to masham, which was nice. Recovered a bit on the way but then had to go up another hill, which I really had to drag my fat self up... my legs just had nothing left of any note, power/strengthwise.

Everyone waited for me just over the top which was nice but I feel massively guilty for making them get cold and/or bored. :(

Way home was pretty much all downhill, so was fun.

I couldn't get my HRM to connect to garmin for most of it, think I finally got it to connect on the 2nd hill as I was on my own then and it stopped finding multiple units. :D

So the HR data isn't accurate, but it's probably not far off what it actually would have been.

Synapse is a very very nice bike. Easily as comfortable as the Roubaix, soooo smooth, but not sure how much of that is down to 28c tyres, think the Roubaix came with 25s.

I don't have my torque wrench as I gave it to a guy at work today, but the seat dropped a bit during the ride, which didn't help. Have cranked it up a bit now on the clamp... hopefully it's not gonna break on me/fall down on saturday.
Di2 is also nice. Or maybe it's just ultegra compared to my 5700 105. No Front Derailleur rubbing, just nice smooth changes. Going up and down the Cassette with whatever sprockets they have was much smoother compared to my 11-32 10 speed. No nasty jumps around 18mph where I can never quite find the most comfortable gear.

I love this bike. I don't love that it doesn't have any way of mounting guards.. that might go against it, but it's certainly comfortable. And it didn't seem slow, except uphill, but that's probably because I was on it and I was knackered.

But not knowing what's around the corner is kinda putting me off getting something now.

I'm off to Majorca for the 312 at end of April  got some days there either side of the event to warm up (gently) then probably tackling Sa Calobra on the Monday with whatever is left in my legs

Not gone as far as entering a 300 miler as training  but have been piling the miles on over the weekends - Scouting Mam Tor 200K couple of weeks ago, Fri-Sunday long rides over Easter, Delightful Dales this Sunday, then possibly the Ironbridge audax before a midweek ride of Tan Hill 200 route which a few of our lads didn't complete last year due to one having a tumble descending Buttertubs resulting in busted ribs and a punctured lung :(

Think I'll be used to the hills and most of the distance, smooth roads and warm sunshine is another matter :p

Just a thing we're planning. It'll be a similar route to last year (only with an extra 100 miles tacked on). I might increase it slightly to make it a quintuple metric... You'd be more than welcome along for some or all of it :)
