Amazon making some items prime only purchases

Amazon is great. My monitor packed in after warranty expired. I contacted Amazon and they refunded me £80 on a £200 purchase. Prime is great.

It's all very well people saying prime is great but it doesn't work most of the time here. If I remember right out of 5 orders I placed while on the prime trial only one arrived next day. Most still took 3-4 days to arrive and one took over a week. All items were in stock and qualified for prime next day delivery.

I don't mind paying a bit extra to buy from Amazon just for peace of mind if something goes wrong. Most retailers interrogate you and make returns painful.

Support your local business and buy independent...

Amazon is good and I use it for certain items but I am well aware it is a race to the bottom if it monopolises everything.

I don't have an independent store who sells headphones or video games, or most the other things I get from Amazon. I'd imagine same applies to a lot of people. Never underestimate the laziness of people either, some would rather order to the door than get in the car and drive for ten minutes.

I don't order much from Amazon any more so prime is useless for me too. Basic shopping, yeah its fine if you need them next day but for new releases of media, other places are cheaper if not the same price with free delivery.

As for bigger stuff like TV's, other places offer minimum 5 years warranty. Amazon you have to pay extra, if they offer extra warranty at all.

Yep, love my Prime membership! I did have to kick off yesterday after I bought something, and before it had even left the warehouse the price had gone down.
Soon sorted that nonsense out and got the £2.12 difference back! :p

Yeah. I bought tablet cover last week for £13, it got delivered on Monday when the price was £6. Quick email to CS team and hour later I had refund going back to my account. :)

They would have given you a months free membership for each delivery that was late, could have gotten 4 months year for free.

I don't understand the appeal of getting everything next day. Most of what Amazon sell could be classed as tat but OMG NEXT DAY TAT :p

For my purchasing habits, and not leaving important stuff until the day before, it isn't worth it. The fact other services are thrown in probably shows that amazon themselves acknowledge that people wouldn't pay for them separately, too

Indeed. I wasn't too impressed by what's on offer on the video side of things when I trialled it and I personally don't order often from Amazon so Prime isn't worth it for me.

If you could pay monthly I'd be more inclined as I wouldn't be committed, and could stick a month on if I decided I wanted to watch a few things they had or if I had a few things to order that month. where paying 6 or 7 quid for a month would be cheaper than 3 or 4 lots of delivery.

I suppose they don't offer monthly subs for that reason.
You can pay monthly.

You sign up with the full-year fee, then switch to monthly payments. They refund the year fee, and start taking the monthly amounts. You pay £7.99/month, so £16 more than the annual fee.

Select slow delivery and get £1 credit for each order.

At chrimbo they were doing £3 credit for selecting slow delivery. I bought about £5 products on seperate orders and got £18 credit.

Presumably it's an exclusivity thing? And that DVD will be available to us mere mortals in ~6 months time?

Prime has never appealed to me and I can't see that changing. Still, I fully accept I'm in the 1% demographic that Amazon don't care about :p.

After quitting Amazon I found myself saving a lot more money :P

I'm sure you can find alternatives, Amazon isn't the cheapest place to buy everything anyway.

cancelled mine for a bit but vikings / outlander new season started, plus they offred me it for 7.99 per month rather than 80 sheets up front so they lured me back into the fold.

the 100 scifi show is not bad too .

In all fairness Aberlour is in the middle of nowhere. I get most stuff the next day or the following at the latest in Aberdeen which seems worth it for the £39 student subscription.

Prime music is also pretty good and there are a handful of shows I watch on Prime even if not that many.
