**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

I'm considering the S7, prefer the Edge solely because of the larger screen but not sure about the curved screen. Are there any annoyances or cons with curved screens over flat?

I would turn that question on its head and ask is there any actual point (other than looking "interesting") to a curved screen?

Well I have no idea whether curved screens are a gimmick or not. I've never used a phone with a curved screen or at least held it in my hand before. But I guess your post suggests it is nothing more than a gimmick and operates in the same way as if it was flat screen.

Big battery, bigger screen, and yeah looking interesting I think is a great reason, phones all look the same, and anything thats even a bit interesting is done so poorly e.g. LG G5. The S7 Edge I think is really the only interesting looking phone in a sea of glass slabs.

Yes the bigger battery is indeed a selling point but the question being asked was to do with the screen.
If they did a flat S7 with a 5.5 screen and edge capacity battery I'd have seriously considered getting one.

Same here
As about 6mm (3mm per side) of the edge screen because of the curves is pretty much unusable ..

But I do love the way that my edge screen goes right to the edges of the phone..:)

Are there any real world tests comparing the 2 in terms of battery? It seems like the difference is going to be offset by the fact its driving a bigger screen - I wouldnt be surprised if the lifespan of them was the same.

I like the edge in some ways but its just too big, so I got a flat one. The battery is really good so I dont think I need any more

it's upgrade time for me, had the S5 for just under 2 years. It's a little bent and one of the sensors inside is broken so it doesn't rotate the screen or count steps so I need to upgrade.

I've always had the top Samsung phone, S2, S5 and now i'd like the S7.

I am currently with EE on pay monthly. £33.77 a month, unlimited calls and texts and 4GB data. Data is more important than calls for me but I moved from Tmobile to EE with the S5 and took what deal best suited my needs then.

Looking at upgrades and I must say I am a little shocked at the prices. For the same package it's £30 for the phone and £50.99 a month for the phone :o

Anyone any advice where to get a cheaper and better offer from? I've been with Tmobile/EE for well over 10 years now and they offer nothing for long term customers. I must keep the number though, I use it for my business?

Yeah there's comparisons available at Ars Technica here http://arstechnica.co.uk/gadgets/2016/03/samsung-galaxy-s7-and-s7-edge-review/

I'm fortunate to receive nearly all phones for sale in non-uk europe as part of my job and opted for the non-edge for duty right now. I had an edge last year and found that the edge was a hindrance more than it added. I am likely in the minority, if you don't use it but like the uniqueness then great but for me a phone must be useable above all others and the edge took away more than it added. It was unfortunate that the size / battery is lower but the battery is a champ for a 5.2 device and that will do for me. Quick charge can cover the rest :)

Unofficial VR's don't work the same. There's Samsung specific hardware inside the GearVR (better gyro, inertia processing) and the interface is "known" by the phone. The ones on amazon are typically google cardboard replacements which are quite poor in comparison. You might want to wait until googleVR gets announced if VR is a big draw for you. You might find someone willing to sell a GearVR here, a few got it as part of their pre-order and there's bound to be some who didn't like it that much.

I just bought mine from a fellow forumer and got myself a £16.50/12 month contract with EE. UNLIMITED calls, texts and 16Gb data

The S5 has a known fault with the gyro sensor which causes the symptoms you mentioned. Samsung guarantee their phones for 2 years. Contact them for a free repair.

I just got a sammy S7, no cost for the phone on EE; with:

Unlimited mins & texts
5GB data

This was at mobile phones direct.

Having a bit of trouble with setting up the mobile hotspot. It won't let me set the security to WPA2 PSK. As soon as I choose that option, the save button becomes greyed out. Will only let me start the hotspot if the security is set to open. Anyone else seen that? I'm using an S7 Edge on EE. Thanks.

Is it actually greyed out? Mine is set to wpa2 psk and I can save it fine.
