I haven't ever found a gym where serious users are unhelpful or intimidating. If anything it's the half arsed people who look at you more menacingly then get intimidated by massive people doing things properly and promptly scuttle off back to their bicep workout.

Last time I tried 170 couldn't get it off the ground but changed to a 5x5 for a couple of weeks and it's worked brilliantly. All my lifts have gone up.
