Grim after work ride yesterday, was planning on giving the segment I created a good seeing to but just as I got home the wind picked up with some strong gusts  and it was also spitting on and off. (I've ridden that a lot quicker, actual moving time yesterday 39:56).

Had to stop after the first climb to stick the rain cape on, then again before the second to reverse a cleat adjustment I'd made. After the second I was in two minds about just sacking it in but soldiered on and got it done. Completely grey skies and just miserable all round.

I came back the same way too and after finishing the last climb (mile 4 in reverse) average was 16mph so worked my legs off to get that up to 16.5mph with a head wind over the 6 miles home (24m total). Glutes firing nicely on both cyclinders down the A41 and extremely pumped by the time I got in :D

Hmm..considering visiting a friend in Cheltenham over the weekend....which would involve cycling 145 miles there on Sat and the same back on Sun. How ruined would I be I wonder...

Sadly the wind won't be blowing in the same direction on Sunday :(

Fairly close to being sure I'll do it. I can't say I'm looking forward to it but I need to keep on top of traininf for the 300er in June and I can't ride at all next weekend.

Do it!

In my experience, it'll be harder to do two 150mile rides over consecutive days than it would be to do one big 300 mile day. Good training for you though :)

Could be a number of things, strain, inflammation etc I'd check your cleats and/or saddle haven't shifted and additionally stretch glutes, hammies and quads too. I'd avoid directly 'attacking' the area if it's still particularly sore.
Cleats is probably a good suggestion as I have changed shoes recently (stopped using my Sidi's for day to day and back to my Giro Treble II's). I didn't take another rest day today (mrs needs the car) but things feel loads better today. Think my recovery rides yesterday helped loads, as I'm only commuting one way today (and then off the bike for over a week on holiday) I gave it the beans a little earlier and my calf has held up fine! Feels 90% recovered now even after those efforts.
To be honest not sure how much I've actually benefited from the premium/platinum discount.. a lot of stuff I've bought on more than 5/12% discount.
Haha I'm the same, tend to hunt things down on deals which I judge against the 'usual price' I see things at, which is of course my Platinum discount :o
I'm aware the weather is going to be horrendous. It will be 15mph headwind literally the entire way to Cheltenham too :p
Excuses already? You've not even set off... :p:D

CAR vs BIKE!
Finally got around to checking my mileage. Car had it's MOT on the 6th May, between MOT's it has done 4446 miles. Cycling over that period Strava gives me a total mileage of 3949 miles. Fingers crossed I can beat it this year! :D

I've cycled 1900 miles since January. I doubt I've driven half that in the same period.

1600ish here..

drove around the same tbh :o bike is used daily car is used a 3-4 times a week but often for longer 100-150 mile drives

thinking about it, this is going to be my weakest year for a while! :O

due to family problems etc I had to leave UK, had a few sick days lots of time working from home etc so my miles are very much down! still commute to work every time I go there but not as much as I did in 2015 for example.

Hi all

Another question about my proposed new setup (my buy the bloody thing soon).

Carbon clincher wheels, good/bad idea? I weigh about 85kg, cycle around the north Pennines so no long descents really.

Lots of forum posts when googled suggest "omg no the rims will explode, you won't be able to brake, look at this video of someone crashing because the brakes don't work" etc

Do tubulars have any great benefit over clinchers?

Are you planning on using the same route you posted before?

Yes, but only when speed is your top priority (ie when racing).

Tubulars allow for a lighter rim and mostly have better rolling resistance.

The difficulty (and huge relative cost) of fixing a puncture outweighs any benefits when not racing.
