Hi, looking to get my first bike, and just wanted to check if this is a good choice ?

https://www.evanscycles.com/cannondale-caad8-tiagra-6-2016-road-bike-EV239398

Ideally through Evan cycles as I have the cycle to work scheme. Plan to just rides weekends at first on nice summer days. Ideally like to spend a bit less, but was to.d and from what I've read that's a good first road bike to get.

Advice ?

Cannondale are a safe bet. Tiagra is good kit. There is brand tax, but for a first bike, being able to throw a leg over it is more than worth a bit of brand tax.

I've been waiting for 43.7/44s in black to come up again for ages! Mavic MTB shoes fit nice so I want to stay with the same brand...

That is a good deal.

Although I can't look at the Mavic "M" without thinking of Morrisons :p

I'm so glad i'm not the only one.

Ahaha. I get this comment from one friend all the time!

not sure if those comments were for me :p

But atm not bothered at the brand and I would prefer to spend a little less as worried i may not ride it after a few weeks / months.

Is a £400 bike for example going to be twice as 'bad' ?

Does anybody have any experience with the Fizik R3 Uomo?

I've got some R3s. I haven't used them enough to comment really but they definitely felt stiff on the couple of times I used them on the turbo! They look cool with the carbon soles too.:D

dropping to a lesser brand (Pinnacle is Evans own brand) will get components of similar quality at a lesser price....

Spec wise it's not a bad bike at all. Seem to be limited sizes available. The more important question though is exactly what sort of riding you're interested in doing. The CAAD series is a pretty aggressive geometry, if you're not used to the road bike position you might find you're a lot more comfortable on something a bit more relaxed - like the Synapse. Then again, you might not, everyone's different. So it's good to try them out in the shop if you get the opportunity.

I guess the question is - are you particularly fussed about going as fast as you can? Are you interested in maybe trying out racing some day? Or would you prefer a more relaxed approach, with the option to put a pannier rack on and take it commuting or touring, and wider tyres to give you the option of taking it on gravel tracks and some off road trails? Something like this (only one size left, just for reference really):

You can get a perfectly serviceable bike for £400, though it's not so easy at Evans.

It's on cycle to work, you said, so even £700 is only about £40 a month at the end of the day.

Which scheme is it you're using? Can you use other shops besides Evans? Cyclescheme can be used at decathlon, where your money would go further.

Cheers, I'll have a look and see what size they recommend.
I always seem to be between sizes and this will be the first new bike i buy, so want to attempt to get it right lol

So, after much struggling trying to decide which of the three colour schemes to go for with the Dolan, none of which i really liked, My mate came round on his new bike and...
I ended up blowing my budget totally and ordered one of these...so much for keeping it under a grand ;)

Best not tell the wife, she will go mental :D

Another question as I close in on my attempt at a chinese carbon build. Bottom Brackets this time...

BSA vs BB30; I've done some reading but like most things bike related opinion seems to differ greatly depending on the source. The gist I'm getting is BSA is the more common option but BB30 can provide a stiffer ride?

I intend to use this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-105-5800-groupset/, would that fit with the BSA bottom bracket and if I went for BB30 would it require an adapter, if so which one?

Cheers again!

When you select your bottom bracket be it BSA or BB30, you then select one to fit a shimano crank, so it's pretty obvious.

When I did my build, I fitted a Wheels Manufacturing bottom bracket. Their site even if you don't buy one, gives you plenty of information to understand things a bit better http://wheelsmfg.com/bottom-brackets.html

Ugh..despite early night I'm still really not feeling it. Just ate a huge breakfast and now to shower before getting a train to Crewe. 111 miles from there to Cheltenham...and then back the same way tomorrow. Woo :s
