Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Why is it when Nvidia have a new launch 95% of the focus is on them... But when AMD launch, the discussion always turns to Nvidia lol. AMD still in the shadow of Nvidia even when they're potentially offering the same performance for £150 less :p

"Ignoring FE"

Lol

and 1 uk store had as you say 100 gigabyte gamings (just 1 model) and you dont think globally they havent physically sold 1000's?

Well ocuk is a big player and a preferred stockist. And yes I am ignoring the early adopters card, the FE.

They seem to be in plentiful stock mainly cause people arent buying them and would prefer to preorder a better and cheaper AIB. But notice people caving now and settling for a FE.

Just face facts. if they had been decent numbers, then 10,000s would have sold and been shipped.

Without numbers listed in stock you have absolutely no idea how many came in.

But you do and you know they havent sold many?:p

You act like you know it all but we are both ******* in the wind here.

All i have said is that nvidia have released first and will have sold 1000's (at least as it is obvious)by now. Im not claiming anything else.

Oh dear.

You are, you are making it sound like its been the greatest release in sales of a card yet and ignoring the massive shortage which isnt down to massive demand but solely done to the cards not been available to buy (AIB that is). You seem to be saying that they have shipped 10,000s and thats why they are in short supply and that sales have vastly exceeded what Nvidia expected.

I even have one on pre-order myself but Im not a total blind fanboy like you that I cant see that there is a serious problem with the 1080 launch and clearly Nvidia probably should have made 1st July the hard launch day.

There are reports now that 1080 wont be seen in numbers until July and maybe August.

Would you kindly stop going ON AND ON AND ON about Pascal and nVidia in an AMD thread?

PLEASE?!!!??!??!?!?!??!??!?!??!

Think that's all in your head. I think the 1000 series launch has been rubbish.

I am in no way a fanboy either thanks.

I was just refuting the posts that said nvidia didnt release first and havent sold many.

Good. Im glad we agree :)

I think the point was being made, with so few numbers, Nvidia hasnt really "launched" yet and just did it so they could be first to the market.

Can we get back to the 480 hype train now please?

Yup, this is the issue. I'm honestly expecting small Vega to give the 1080 a bit of a pasting and I wouldn't be surprised if big vega beat GP102 comfortably as well.

If small vega has HBM2, it will destroy 1080 in overall performance and performance/watt.

Total garbage

You have no idea what the specs of small vega will be and yet you make the above prediction.

As to HBM memory I would caution anyone considering buying a card with it to have a very good look at the reviews before you part with your money.

I don't think it is a coincidence that GDDR5X has become the memory to use instead of HBM.

Yea Gibbo most likely counts pre orders as sales due to you paying for the item before hand. You can still cancel your order during this time so not exactly a guaranteed sale.

Probably is a bigger demand for the 1080 than there was for the 970 granted but saying there is been more bought than the 970 is abit over exaggerated. Most of the pre orders seem to be AIB cards too while FE are easier to get a hold of. Most likely nVidia keeping most of the GPU for them selfs and distributing less to board partners.

we all love Gibbo...but the nature of his job dictates for him a carefull consideration of what he says, because he needs a good relation with Nvidia, AMD, and AIBs, he wouldn't lie but some things could be omitted, 1080 outsold 970 in it's first week, fine but 970 1st week sales number were regular or low.
let's see Gibbo drop on us 980Ti vs 1080 sale(not pre-orders) numbers for the first 2 week :D, personally i would be really interested in that.
alright back to topic now :p

Easy. It offers enough bandwiodth for the current chips and is cheaper than HBM and with the power requirements of the current generations you dont need the power savings from HBM.

AMD made that mistake on the Fury.

There will be chips from both sides which will need HBM2 but these arent them.

In fact, I am pretty sure the Titan and 1080ti wont use HBM either despite what people are hoping for.

Everyone who posts anything even slightly critical of AMD in here is apparently.

It is a dark place to wander.

No its the fact that anything remotely critical of Nvidia gets shot down on the whole forums here, :p

If this had being AMD's launch, the forums would have exploded with people complaining and damning them.

I think the Titan will, just to give those considering buying it another reason to do so.

Plus it's not like the Titan is built to a budget.

Well, the first point I think DM was making was that the counter-arguments based on OCUK showing "In Stock" were bogus. And that point is carried. You're now trying to turn that around and say that it equally doesn't mean there were stock issues, but DM's statements that there are severe stock issues don't come from that. They come from the repeated pushing back of release dates, the high number of waiting pre-orders and the repeated delays even favoured partners like EVGA are suffering from.

All i have said is that nvidia have released first and will have sold 1000's (at least as it is obvious)by now. Im not claiming anything else.

And that may be accurate as far as it goes and fine to state. But that is a very low figure and they're clearly having problems. It's a little like those posts you see on Slashdot or wherever that just go "FIRST!". Sure, well done, your comment was the technically first on the article. But the meaningful comments come next.

Why though? Cause of power requirements? The 1080 only needs a single power connector so I would have though for the full blown Titan, gddr5x would suffice?

I could not have put it better.:)

HBM has it's uses but it is not a cure all solution.
